Do you have tech recruiters or managers that understand your business's tech needs? Not having them might be doing your business a disservice. Let's say your business specializes in finances and you decide to hire a data analyst with 5 to 10 years of experience analyzing large data, but zero experience with financial data. This candidate may meet all your other qualifications, but lack of experience with financial data could be a roadblock. The keyword is still data, whether it's financial, marketing, medical, or anything else. The only thing to learn is the terminology. How you analyze and manipulate it will be based on the business rules, data governance policies, and scope of the project. #techrecruiters #dataanalyst

The hardest part about running a data consultancy is hiring for scale. ⚖️ One way to hack having to hire engineers yourself is through quality partnerships. What I've discovered is that partnering with other data consulting firms to leverage each other's resources enables you to staff projects more efficiently and flexibly. These conversations involve several weeks of initial discussion to structure the partnership and grow the relationship. Whether it's you contracting their engineers for a project Or leaning on a partner's team to augment the project under your brand with a commission at play This is a fantastic way to collaborate and strengthen your network while scaling efficiently. #partnerships #dataconsulting

The day we eliminated the administrative assistant is the day we started struggling to manage our most valuable corporate asset: our data. We thought we hacked the system. We no longer needed an admin to write our correspondence. We can write it, file it, and run our own searches. And when we start drowning in data, we can host record management days. How’s that working out? Not so well, according to the headlines. The explosion of data and cheap storage is skyrocketing the cost of data breaches. And it’s causing an insidious form of corporate ROT from the inside out. It’s time to delete the data. But what data? And where is it? In many cases, only the e-discovery team knows… if you are lucky enough to have one. AI will help. We’re working on it, and the tech is making big strides. But this dilemma won’t be solved by tech alone. This is also a people problem. Admins ➡️ filed documents ➡️ using a consistent organizational structure and ➡️ could efficiently retrieve them. Admins were the librarians for Corporate America. And we may have undervalued one of the most critical responsibilities of the job — to restack the books and manage the card catalog. I predict that we are going to pay back with interest what we may have saved. Some orgs, with breaches and insider threats, already feel the pain. Other orgs, watching the headlines, are getting ahead of the risk by spinning up corporate data deletion initiatives. Fascinated by this problem, I’ve been watching this play out since I was a firm litigator, annoying the in-house attorney by insisting that he rifle through the VP’s desk drawers to find relevant documents. I’ve had a front row seat at the data boom, spending thousands of hours searching large enterprise systems for the needle in haystack. And in 2024, it’s all coming full circle. ➡️We’re hiring people ➡️ to come back ➡️ and help delete the Redundant, Obsolete, and Trivial data (ROT) skyrocketing organizational risk. The concept of “responsible data management” is an idea whose time has come. But how we got here isn’t going to get us there. It’s time to think differently.
