An internship is more than getting a pre-placement offer! While I know that one aims to get a pre-placement offer (#PPO) to free from the rigour of final placement, an internship is a valuable opportunity for learning, growth, and exploration. 1. Learning Experience: Internships offer hands-on experience in a real-world setting, allowing interns to apply what they've learned in the classroom to actual projects and tasks. This helps you in your final placement and ensures you know what you want to pursue for the rest of your life. 2. Internships provide opportunities to connect with professionals in the field, including mentors, supervisors, and peers. Building these relationships can open doors to future job opportunities and career advancement. 3. Internships allow individuals to develop a wide range of skills, including technical skills specific to the job role and soft skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. 4. Internships can be challenging and sometimes push individuals out of their comfort zones, fostering personal growth and resilience. 5. Resume Enhancement: Internship experiences enhance candidates' resumes by showcasing their practical expertise, initiative, and adaptability. There would be more to get out of an internship. Leveraging Internship Program : (1) So far, UTP has allocated 8- month Internship Program with the Industries for their Undergraduates; 16 credit hours as part of the College syllabus. (2) UITM : 6 - month Internship Program (3) UTHM : 5 - month Internship Program (4) Undergraduates should apply at least 6 months in advance with the Industries especially Petronas Plants for the Internship. Universities must act swiftly in getting that placement for the Undergraduates. (5) Normally, the Undergraduates will score A for that Internship, subject to their Supervisors in the Industries. (6) What would be roles of the Undergraduates during the Internship Program? (6.1) Ideally, they should register LinkedIn Platform momentarily they enrol into Colleges. (6.2) They should broaden their network with Professionals in the Industries. (6.3) The Internship Program should jive with their College disciplines. (6.4) It's better to choose any of Big Corporations instead of SME as part of brodening network. (6.5) Depending on your budget, no need to confine your Internship Program just around your hometown only. Think of the bigger picture. (6.6) Basically, you will be familiarising with the Industry operations, observing activities, writing reports, attending training programs and presentations, assessments. (7) Upon College graduation, Graduates should have established already their network with the Recruiters, Hiring Managers and Senior Professionals from the Industries whom will assist them in their career. (8) Pity to some Interns who might be lone wolves, unsociable , grumpy, silo mentally, very introvert, lazy during the Internship Program. For further deliberations, let's grab coffee sometimes at my favourite cafe - Richiamo Coffee , Sek 7, Shah Alam or Kampong Kravers, KLCC.
