"An intellectual says a simple thing in a hard way. An artist says a hard thing in a simple way." - Charles Bukowski #WorldTheatreDay, celebrated each year on March 27, is not just a nod to the grandeur of curtains and costumes; it's a #tribute to the age-old tradition of storytelling that weaves the fabric of our society. Theatre, the #bedrock of #entertainment, has been the mirror reflecting the countless faces of humanity, teaching us, entertaining us, and, in many ways, healing us. Like a lighthouse guiding ships through stormy seas, theatre illuminates the complexities of human nature, offering #solace in our shared experiences. Theatre's role extends beyond the mere act of storytelling; it's a powerful tool for economic growth and cultural enrichment, echoing the thrum of life itself. It teaches us empathy by allowing us to walk a mile in another's shoes, albeit from the comfort of our seats. Actors, the chameleons of the art world, demonstrate that by adopting myriad personas, they can offer a balm to our internal struggles and echo our deepest joys and sorrows. World Theatre Day reminds us that in the heart of the arts lies the key to understanding one another. On this day, let us remember that theatre, the original social network, continues to connect us in ways no digital platform can replicate, teaching life's greatest lessons not through lectures, but through the profound beauty of shared #humanexperience. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/et2aJ7QV

Production Stage Manager at Water for Elephants Production Supervisor - 2023 Best Musical - Kimberly Akimbo on Broadway and National Tour; Teacher, Mentor and Board Member at Open Stage Project -
Celebrating World Theatre Day. Remembering that theatre is so much bigger than Broadway. I am at once humbled and proud to belong to a community of collaborative artists in every nation. Most of whom don't have the budgets, resources or wages of Broadway but tell their stories anyway. I believe story telling in community matters. Here is the WTD 2024 Message by Jon Fosse of Norway which really resonated with me. Like the author, I believe that art should not erase differences but bring them into light so we can learn to empathize with what is alien to us. That is how we transcend and transform. Art, good art, manages in its wonderful way to combine the utterly unique with the universal. It lets us understand what is different—what is foreign, you might say—as being universal. By doing so, art breaks through the boundaries between languages, geographical regions, countries. It brings together not just everyone’s individual qualities but also, in another sense, the individual characteristics of every group of people, for example of every nation. Art does this not by levelling differences and making everything the same, but, on the contrary, by showing us what is different from us, what is alien or foreign. All good art contains precisely that: something alien, something we cannot completely understand and yet at the same time do understand, in a way. It contains a mystery, so to speak. Something that fascinates us and thus pushes us beyond our limits and in so doing creates the transcendence that all art must both contain in itself and lead us to.

Today is World Theatre Day. Since 1962 World Theatre Day has been celebrated by International theater organizations, theater professionals, and theater lovers all over the world on the 27th of March. This year, the International Theatre Institute is privileged to have Jon Fosse, the Norwegian playwright and novelist, and last year's Nobel Prize Laureate in Literature, crafting the Message for World Theatre Day 2024. You can read the full World Theatre Day Message from this link: https://lnkd.in/dZXXGENk Here you can find some parts of the message: "Art Is Peace Every person is unique and yet also like every other person. Our visible, external appearance is different from everyone else’s, of course, that is all well and good, but there is also something inside every one of us that belongs to that person alone—which is that person alone. We might call this their spirit, or their soul. Or else we can decide not to label it at all in words, just leave it alone. But while we are all unlike one another, we’re alike too. People from every part of the world are fundamentally similar, no matter what language we speak, what skin color we have, or what hair color we have. This may be something of a paradox: that we are completely alike and utterly dissimilar at the same time. Maybe a person is intrinsically paradoxical, in our bridging of body and soul—we encompass both the most earthbound, tangible existence and something that transcends these material, earthbound limits. Art, good art, manages in its wonderful way to combine the utterly unique with the universal. It lets us understand what is different—what is foreign, you might say—as being universal. By doing so, art breaks through the boundaries between languages, geographical regions, and countries. It brings together not just everyone’s individual qualities but also, in another sense, the individual characteristics of every group of people, for example of every nation (...)” . . . #worldtheaterday #art #peace #talentra

🎭 I started working at Konträr in August, Konträr is Sweden’s only contemporary international and national theatre. Sadly, due to a lack of funding, Konträr had to close its doors in September. 💔 In just two years, Konträr showcased 50 premieres, featuring both Swedish and international artists. 🌍 Despite the overwhelming support, the real challenge isn't ticket sales or public interest but the lack of state funding for culture. It’s a harsh reality that many think ticket sales alone can sustain a theatre, but that’s simply not the case. This closure raises important questions about the future of art and culture in Sweden. How can we keep producing bold, innovative theatre when the system doesn’t support us? 🤔 I wonder—is this a unique issue in Sweden, or are theatres worldwide facing similar challenges? I’m eager to hear how other cultural institutions are managing in this environment. Running a theatre is a lot like running a business, but with its own set of challenges: while companies can generate profits through various products or services, theatres often rely solely on ticket sales, which aren’t enough to cover all expenses. Despite these challenges, the desire for theatre remains strong in our society. So, how can we continue to provide this vital cultural experience? 🎭 I’m incredibly grateful to be part of the Konträr team during these trying times. We’re not giving up—we’re strategizing and hoping for a way forward. 🙌 While I don’t have the wealth or influence to save the theatre myself, I do have a voice. 🗣️ I hope this message resonates with those who value the arts. Let’s raise awareness, discuss what’s happening, and advocate for a future where culture is prioritized and funded. 💪 👉 If you believe in the importance of culture, please share this post to help spread the word. If you have ideas or want to support Konträr financially or in other ways, please reach out— https://kontrar.se/ Together, we can make a difference! 💬 #Konträr #SaveKonträr #CultureMatters #ArtsInCrisis #Theatre #SupportTheatre

Getting English speakers to thrive in Hebrew 🇮🇱 Best-Selling Author Israeli Educator 🤳 Schedule a call with me 👄 Conversational course 📚 Best-selling reading-writing series
In Hebrew, the language beautifully distinguishes between different types of performance spaces in a way that adds clarity and specificity. For instance, while the word for theatre is תאטרון /te-at-'ron/, when referring to the actual hall or room where performances take place, it becomes אולם תאטרון /oo-'lam te-at-'ron/, combining the words for theatre and hall. Similarly, a cinema or movie theatre isn't just קולנוע /kol-'no-a/, but rather אולם קולנוע /oo-'lam kol-'no-a/, when specifying the viewing hall itself. This nuance in Hebrew highlights the importance of the space in which art is experienced, giving it a distinct identity and context. This a picture of us attending the @creativemorningschs in their beautiful Dock Street theatrefilled with history and character. This experience truly captures the essence of how spaces dedicated to the arts hold a special place in our cultural landscape, much like the unique distinction Hebrew makes for these venues. #theatre #hall #theatrelife #hebrew #languagefun #creativemornings

Adelaide Fringes Is On! No Recommendations - Just Some Reasons Why You Should Try and Go 😊. If you don't already know, I love storytelling in all its forms - including of course theatre! It is entertaining, engaging, sometimes confronting and overall essential for individual and societal growth, and development. And even when you don't like what you see on stage, it often still elicits a response - it makes you angry, makes you think, makes you want to know more about the topic etc. In short, and as so aptly explained in a short article titled, "Why Theatre Still Is, and Always Will Be Important." 1. Theatre helps us to see things from a different perspective. 2. Theatre reminds us that we are not as alone as we think. 3. Theatre is immediate, evolving and always different. Although the script may be the same every night, the performance is unique, each and every time it happens. 4. Live theatre helps to promote social discourse, dialogue and potential social change. Theatre is a cultural phenomenon that demands that society examines itself in the mirror. We can study societal problems and attempt to find solutions. 5. Theatre promotes education and literacy. Studies have shown that students who participate in theatre do better in school. Source: https://lnkd.in/gpFZU8tD So, if you can, do go and support this Festival - the biggest arts festival in the southern hemisphere! And if you don't live in Adelaide, perhaps try and seek out some theatre close to you - support the arts, and enjoy the many benefits. #theatremagic #adelaide #storytelling #culture #plays #theatre #artfestival #artseducation #socialimpact #plays #musicals #performers #artists

🌟 Challenges are opportunities 🌟 We always encounter projects that bring new challenges. But we see them as opportunities! The Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) had special requirements for their dance performance. That's why we supplied them with a mobile, battery-powered turntable that rotates five times faster than a standard turntable. The project was definitely a challenge. Unlike usual, rehearsals for the dance show were carried out continuously with the turntable. During rehearsals and the show, the turntable is often only used for a short time. But here the turntable was used without interruption. But why did we use batteries instead of a permanent power supply? Two factors play a role. The turntable can easily be moved off the stage and set up elsewhere. In addition, a battery-powered turntable is ideal if the play is performed in different venues. Because a power connection is not always available there. We are excited about the show and look forward to many successful performances. #nederlandsdanstheater #denhaag #innovation #creativity #success #dance #turntable #stagetechnology #mobileturntable #hoac #hoacwemakeithappen
