I promise this will make sense: In high school, my friends and I had a joke About how ridiculous Superman's powers were. If Superman had x-ray vision and could see through anything Wouldn't he see through everything and then in fact see nothing? I still pose this question But now it's toward my writing And it's toward my world-building. If magic exists in this world, What is the extent of that magic What is the effect of that magic on its people What is the effect of that magic on the natural world? How does it affect the economic situation How does affect the learning economy How does it affect creativity? Build yourself a box Put your creative world in that box. The rules are there as guardrails So you don't have to question If Superman's X-ray vision Would see through everything And therefore see nothing. The constraints make you more creative, not less. #worldbuilding #writingcommunity #creativity #fictionwriting #amwriting #linkedinlearning #writersoflinkedin

“WHAT’s WRONG WITH ME? The worst approach towards problems, EVER. First, it puts you at the center for accusations rather than aiming to solve the problem. That way, you will never get problems solved to the bottom. The simplest way to solve your challenge is to: 1. Understand your problem, for example, ‘I don’t have enough money to meet my needs.’ It shouldn’t be, ‘I am lazy or poor.’ That’s a judgment. 2. Make a list of what needs to be done for you to earn more, such as ‘I need to get gigs, cut out some expenses, start teaching this skill to these people,’ etc. Make the list as long as possible. 3. Break down the list from the most cost-effective to the least. Then decide based on your bigger goals. Are you aiming to get more money for surviving or creating wealth? 4. Check if your skills and abilities match the solution you have selected. Find out the most possible way to go about it. 5. Plan things out. 6. Get started. Do not victimize yourself by putting yourself at the center of your problems. Get out of the ring and see things from the outside. Good luck. #iwrite #writing #writerscommunity #problemsolving #problemsolvingskills

It took a lot of courage to finish my novel. Also needed to hack around my fear. So I went old school. I had a short story that was growing. The train had left the station, but I didn't know if or how I could finish. I had a 9-5, and a film in development. What worked: - Setting a small daily word count goal - Writing for at least 30 min per day - Writing first thing every morning Slowly but surely, it got done. Tracked my progress on index cards. Life goal. Life changing moment. I didn't do it to get published. Two agents passed, and three ghosted after read requests. For me, it was about getting the story out. Which I did. In small daily increments. PS: This is the first version of my tracking cards, when I thought I'd be able to stop at a 20K word novella.

LinkedIn just posted a great article in the discussion forum on the topic of problem-solving. This reminded me of a old video we posted on "Writing Effective Problem Statements". Time has flown since we first posted this in 2016 but problems... we all never seem to run short of them both personally and professionally. Wishing everyone a fabulous year ahead of successful problem-solving! https://lnkd.in/dguJe3t #problemsolving #problemsolvingskills #problemsolvers #mondai #freeapp #freeonlinecourses #freeonlinetraining
