Happy Birthday to FamilyLine! 🎉 Our national helpline, FamilyLine, marks its sixth year of operation this month. Our Royal Patron, Catherine HRH The Princess of Wales, launched FamilyLine in 2019 in our charity's 150th year. Over the last 6 years, we've expanded our services to include free telephone befriending and counselling service as an extension of our support, via specially trained FamilyLine operators or supporters. Generous sponsorship from LV= General Insurance helped achieve this extended service. In 2024, we welcomed a donation from Poundland & Dealz which allowed us to expand our self-help resources via our website as well as improved service speed and quality through the use of a fast-track case management system and better analytics. Thankful for the advocacy of NCVO on behalf of charities. 💞 We are asking for parity 🟰 with the public sector in the budget, not with businesses. As the #costoflivingcrisis still bites this is another factor which means we will have to raise more to stay in the same position, in a time of unprecedented demand. 👀 Read more about the impact of cost of living on our small charity here: https://lnkd.in/ed2GwBKj

This is important. An unintended conquence of the budget - and it needs a re-think.
Our estimates show planned increases to employer national insurance contributions will cost the charity sector £1.4bn a year. Many charities will be forced to make difficult decisions to shoulder this heavy burden. Together with ACEVO we’re calling on HM Treasury to take urgent action. Fundraising and voluntary sector leaders: Please consider joining over 1,000 others and signing the NCVO and ACEVO 's open letter to the Chancellor to review the planned increase in employer insurance contributions. The increase will particularly hit smaller community based organisations that deliver much-needed and valued services for marginalised groups of people that are already tightly stretched. These include youth clubs, community based hospital transport schemes, shelters for homeless people or those fleeing domestic violence, classroom reading schemes, food banks. The list goes on. If hit with additional costs, these organisations are threatened with closure, which will have a detrimental impact on all our communities. Just two weeks ago the Government announced its intentions to work more closely with the voluntary sector. There are times when I think that the Treasury forgets that the sector underpins the sort of society we want to live in, and delivers about £17bn worth of benefit that in a perfect world would be paid for by the government and not by charitable funding. The government can't have it both ways.

📢 Charities are facing an estimated £1.4bn-a-year hit in increased employer National Insurance Contributions following the government’s autumn budget. And the sector – already grappling with increasing demand, rising costs and reduced funding – is urging the chancellor to think again. 🖋 Add your voice to the campaign by signing the open letter here: https://bit.ly/3UEJhVj “The decision to increase employer NICs across the charity sector – and not to create an exemption – will be another major strain on charities’ limited resources,” NCVO and ACEVO are warning. #charities #thirdsector #notforprofit #Budget2024 #NCVO #ACEVO #CharityIntelligence
