Our donation enabled the participants to access cutting-edge biometric technology and personalized coaching, nurturing a culture of resilience and self-awareness. The programme has empowered aspiring entrepreneurs of the university to monitor their stress levels, enhance with resilience and strike a harmonious work-life balance. By combining biometric data insights with psychological assessments and tailored coaching, participants gained valuable strategies to optimize their performance while safeguarding their mental and physical health. The success of this first year has set the stage for further expansion, indicating a promising future for the programme. The participant feedback has been overwhelming. 5 years ago today we lost a legend... Many people don't know that before Clay Christensen's amazing achievements as an academic and Harvard Business School (HBS) professor, he was an entrepreneur running his own tech company in the Boston area. At the age of 37 he was pushed out of the company he founded and no longer had a job or any real direction. He was wondering how to provide for his wife and 5 children when he was approached by a former professor at HBS, Kim B. Clark. Kim invited him to apply to their Ph.D. program at Harvard -- even though the application deadline had passed and the fall semester had already started... Long story short, through his research and study for his dissertation which led to his ground breaking book "The Innovator's Dilemma" this humble man went on to become the Father of Disruptive Innovation and the favorite professor of almost all CEOs world-wide and more importantly, all 2nd year MBA students at HBS for the next 20 years. I first met Clay while running strategy simulations at HBS for 1st year MBA students and he took the time to review research for my own dissertation on the disruptive nature of online business simulations. I will never forget his kindness and concern for those around him. Every day that I taught a new principle of entrepreneurship or strategy in the classroom at HBS, BYU-Idaho or BYU Hawaii, I would ask myself, "How would Clay teach this?" It is tough to get pushed out of a business or a university, but I am convinced that these are the things that give us humility and perspective. If we are willing to persevere and endure -- even greater things can happen in our life. In fact, greater things than we ever thought possible. A quick side note - when Clay was offered a chaired/ endowed position at HBS, he was allowed to choose the name in honor of someone he most admired. Congratulations to Dr. Tim R. Holcomb Ph.D., Professor and Chair of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Director of the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship in the Miami University Farmer School of Business at Miami University. Dr. Holcomb and his co-authors received word that their paper, “Exploring the Effects of Institutional Logics on Entrepreneurial Opportunity Evaluations in Emerging Economies," has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Small Business Management, a leading peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes international research on small business management and entrepreneurship, including small business management, organization, strategy and finance. Using data gathered from 326 aspiring entrepreneurs in India, this paper extends theory on institutional logics by highlighting that logics act not only as a "lens" but also as a "mirror," helping entrepreneurs predict how certain stakeholders will interpret and react to their decisions and actions. The study also identifies critical boundary conditions of the decision context that make the effect of institutional logic more or less salient and highlight that financial stakes and support from close associates strengthen the relationship between the family logic and willingness to invest. The paper was co-authored with Dr. Rakesh Pati, Senior Lecturer in Management in the Department of Management at Deakin University (Melbourne), Dr. Niharika Garud, Associate Professor in Management in the Department of Management & Marketing, University of Melbourne, and Dr. Chris Sutter, Associate Professor of Management and the Fealy Family Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship in the Carl H. In 2009, I graduated from Miami Dade College, but not just as any graduate. I completed my journey with a 4.0 GPA, earning the highest honors and distinctions. At graduation, I was honored to receive a prestigious scholarship awarded to just one student in the entire graduating class—a recognition of my hard work, dedication, and hunger to succeed. That moment was a milestone in my life, but it was only the beginning. Today, I returned to Miami Dade College, not as a student but as a business owner and participant in the Inner City Capital Connections (ICCC) program. ICCC is an incredible program for entrepreneurs, offering a “mini MBA”-style curriculum that focuses on sustainable growth, resilience, and scaling businesses. It’s designed to empower leaders from under-resourced communities to build long-term success, and I’m proud to be part of it. As I walked through the halls of my alma mater, I couldn’t help but reflect on my journey. I’m deeply grateful to every single person who has supported and mentored me along the way. My professors in college were catalysts for my success—they saw the light, the hunger, and the potential in me when I couldn’t always see it myself. Their guidance shaped my path. I also want to thank the professionals, community leaders, bosses, and mentors I’ve had throughout my career. Each of you has played a crucial role in helping me grow, learn, and step into entrepreneurship with confidence. I carry your wisdom with me every day, and I am endlessly grateful. This full-circle moment is a testament to the power of mentorship, hard work, and community. From being a top student to becoming a leader and business owner, I’m reminded that no journey is ever truly a solo one.
