Harnessing Parental Influence for Lasting Change As parents, we hold immense influence over our children’s lives. We model the essence of giving and receiving love, responding thoughtfully rather than reacting impulsively, setting healthy boundaries, practicing forgiveness, engaging in continuous repair, and taking accountability for our actions rooted in trauma and outdated conditioning. Being trauma-conscious is crucial for breaking harmful cycles and fostering a new way of living. This different approach not only benefits our children but also our partners, communities, and future generations. https://lnkd.in/gKGMR7ZA

Don't ignore the signs...... Are you a teacher, parent, friend, church leader, or health organization? Most people experiencing trauma will heal gradually when they speak out and that is why it's important to take note of the signs. You might not have the experience to support them but when a trauma victims reach out to you, do the following: 1. Listen to his/her story and validate her feelings, acknowledging that the experience must have been deeply upsetting for her. 2. Encourage them to engage in deep breathing exercises 3. Explain the importance of forgiveness and letting the pain go 4. Encourage them to seek professional help. “No Person Is an Island Our problems are by no stretch of the imagination simply “in our heads.” We live in a world where injustice, intolerance&inequality are rampant&toll in human suffering& in suppression of human potential of countless people even among those who more or less get by okay is almost incalculable. Psychotherapy, even most effective&expansive kind of psychotherapy, is not a substitute4social, political&economic reform. Especially@time like ours, political quietude, turning“inward,”would be a tragic mistake.” Paul L. Wachtel “Making Room for the Disavowed:Reclaiming the Self in Psychotherapy” “Thus, we are confronted here with evidence that Adorno accepts that there are ethical obligations, that they arise from (our reactions to) certain states of affairs, and that they consist in negative prescriptions (to resist and overcome our social world)” “Pessimism and optimism often come as a pair. In Adorno’s case, his deep pessimism about the contemporary social world is coupled with a strong optimism about human potential. In fact, it is the latter which explains his negative views about the contemporary social world and his demand that we should resist and change it ” Fabian Freyenhagen.“Adorno’s Practical Philosophy.” ‘My generation will be defined by action, not apathy’ – the words of Yolanda Renee King, the granddaughter of the visionary civil rights leader Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Inspired by her grandfather’s example, 15-year-old Yolanda is already an activist on issues such as gun violence, climate change and education reform. https://lnkd.in/eYKh8wBH https://lnkd.in/etFpwNxd UNBANNING HISTORY: GEORGIA TEEN ORGANIZERS FIGHT BACK AGAINST SCHOOL CENSORSHIP "Structural injustice occurs when the practices that create the structure – the network of positions and relations – (a) distort our understanding of what is valuable, or (b) organize us in ways that are unjust/harmful/wrong, e.g., by distributing resources unjustly or violating the principles of democratic equality. Systemic injustice occurs when an unjust structure is maintained in a complex system that its self-reinforcing, adaptive, and creates subjects whose identity is shaped to conform to it" Sally Haslanger 2022 "Structural oppression and systemic inequity are interwoven into the fabric of American society. The Meadows Model and Pia Mellody’s Model, via Post Induction Therapy, helps the client to go through their family of origin history, to explore aspects of immature, or less than nurturing parenting, or childhood trauma. I believe understanding denial, delusion and minimisation, and other defense mechanisms clients may have had as children to protect themselves is important. Also how the body responds to less than nurturing parenting and trauma, and the resulting feeling memories, and spontaneous regressions. In adulthood these feeling memories when triggered, produce extreme feelings such as super charged rage or fear or shame. The wounding they faced in childhood resurfaces which is ego regression. It can be very destabilising, destructive and baffling for the client. Pia Mellody’s model is set forth in her book Facing Codependence, and creates a framework to identify childhood trauma (aka codependence) and immaturity issues in adults, and provides an efficient approach to recovery. Pia Mellody recommended John Lee’s book to me, for educating clients about emotional regressions. #childhoodtrauma #developmentaltrauma #trauma #traumarecovery #PIT #themeadowsmodel

Dr. Rahil Briggs captures the essence of HealthySteps so succinctly here! We can't help babies unless we meet the needs of parents, where they are and when they're ready. Listen to this message and let us know how we can help!
There is a clear link between parental well-being and children’s mental health. The many stressors parents and caregivers face are being passed to children in direct and indirect ways, impacting families and communities across America. We can and must do a better job of supporting families. That’s where our HealthySteps program comes in. We meet families where they are -- the pediatrician's office -- with the support they want and deserve. Hear from Rahil Briggs, a child psychologist and our national director, about this innovative approach. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3XzNeMV
