"I began to regard the poultry plant as a strange organism that digests live animals, repackaging them for convenient human consumption. Machine and animal blur together, the neat categories collapsing as grain becomes chicken becomes meat becomes human." Martin Aucoin, winner of our essay challenge, wrote about our understanding of the word 'natural' & on the deeply embedded but often invisible structures our food systems rely upon. In a communications crisis, find the crisis a new lightning rod. Surrey police ram a calf, they're the bad guy. The debate isn't a debate, it's a barrage of condemnation. Surrey police find - and they definitely did some searching - a National Farmer's Union (East Regional Livestock) Chairman to say that the ramming of the calf is justified and now it is a debate. There are now two interpretations. There are new angles we can take the conversation into, angles such as who really should know best when it comes to properly and comprehensively understanding the situation: Joe Public or the National Farmer's Union. This might not seem like much but it's the first muddying of a clear line to the story. After it's first muddying, a story passes that little bit quicker. https://lnkd.in/dbK9fMwN

Pellets with high durability exhibit greater resistance to mechanical stress and environmental factors, ensuring consistent performance and nutrient delivery to animals. Optimizing performance is essential for the long-term success of poultry and swine operations. For example, Glover et al. (2015) observed a 3-point decrease in feed conversion when increasing pellet content in the feed pan from 50% to 70%. Through sustainable pellet production practices and a focus on energy efficiency, producers can: ✓ enhance feed quality ✓ improve animal performance ✓ and support feed producer efficiency and profitability Attending the Poultry Science Association Annual Meeting this week? Join Jose Ramirez as he discusses the impact of feed form on bird performance tomorrow. Use the link below to save your spot. *registration to the event is required https://hubs.ly/Q02GCVQ50
