Friday Midday Markets - Still Waiting on Cash Cattle to Trade; Corn, Soybeans Lower; Wheat Higher Heading into Friday afternoon, the cash cattle market is still sitting on pins and needles as the market has yet to trade cattle. Asking prices are noted in the South at $183-plus and the North at $290-plus. Soybean futures are 5 to 7 cents lower at midday, meal is mixed and bean oil is off 80 cents on the March contract. Wheat futures are 2 to 9 cents higher at midday. Chicago strength is leading the way. Wheat trade is still struggling with spillover weakness from corn and beans, and a lack of a friendly story of its own. Tuesday Midday Markets - Boxed Beef Prices Lower; Corn, Wheat Futures Higher; Soybeans Lower The live cattle contracts were trading higher earlier Tuesday, but with the onset of weaker boxed beef prices, both the live cattle and feeder cattle contracts are now trading fully lower. It's likely the market will continue with this trend through closing as demand remains a top priority in gauging fundamental support. More: https://ow.ly/K3sh50Syaap Corn futures are 4 to 5 higher with light, two-sided action overnight giving way to light buying during the day session as we ease oversold conditions. Ethanol margins should remain solid in the short term with unleaded still holding the upper end of the recent range. Soybean futures are 8 to 13 cents lower with early gains fading as spread trade remains sold with oil leading broad weakness in the product complex. Meal is 4.00 to 5.00 lower, and oil is 195 to 205 points lower. Warmer weather should bolster near-term crop development. Wheat futures are 4 to 7 cents higher at midday with trade working to stabilize after the Monday washout to fresh lows with harvest pressure to continue easing and less negative spillover from corn Tuesday. DOW JONES: 73 Points Higher NASDAQ: 14 Points Lower CRUDE OIL: $0.29 Lower The block cheese price increased 0.75 cent, closing at $1.9675 with one load traded. The price initially increased a penny before it traded, but an offer moved the prices off the high. The barrel cheese price remained unchanged at $1.94 with 15 loads traded. The price initially increased 2.50 cents before selling pressure took the price back down to unchanged. There was an unfilled bid and an uncovered offer remaining in each category. The dry whey price gained 0.50 cent, closing at 49 cents with two loads traded. Class III futures in nearby months showed double-digit gains early in the day but fell to double-digit losses. Friday Midday Markets - Traders Cautious With Support; Corn, Soybeans Lower, Wheat Mixed It's almost as if traders had to look at the cattle complex this morning and say, "Now, now, let's not get too greedy and overdo things," as they are now only mildly supporting the live cattle contracts but letting feeders trade lower. No new cash cattle trade has been reported and the week's business is likely done with. Thursday Midday Markets - Northern Feedlots Holding Out for Better Money; Corn Futures Lower; Soybeans Flat-Lower; Wheat Mixed The livestock complex is trading mixed into Thursday's noon hour as the cattle contracts are retreating amid some technical uncertainty from traders, but the lean hog market is seeing mixed support. No new cash cattle sales have been reported, but trade should begin to develop in the North at any time now. Ethanol margins should see little change with corn action supportive while unleaded holds the range. Meal is 1.00 to 2.00 lower and oil is 30 to 40 points higher. Wheat trade is 5 cents lower to 8 cents higher at midday with spring wheat leading as trade looks to put together back-to-back positive days to ease oversold conditions with winter wheat momentum fading. U.S. winter wheat harvest should continue to wind down, with Northern Hemisphere harvest expanding overall with spring wheat to remain in good shape in the U.S. with some warmer drier weather in the forecast. DOW JONES: 263 Points Lower NASDAQ: 96 Points Lower CRUDE OIL: $0.61 Higher Block cheese price increased by 0.50 cent, closing at $1.8650 with eight loads traded. The barrel cheese price remained steady at $1.9125 with seven loads traded. There were six unfilled bids and one uncovered offer for blocks remaining at the close. There were nine unfilled bids for loads of barrels with no offers. The dry whey price increased a penny, closing at 51 cents with one load traded. Traders viewed this positively with Class III futures 8 to 34 cents higher through December and mixed prices thereafter. Tuesday Midday Markets - Feeders Continue to Grind Higher; Corn, Soybean, Wheat Trading Higher The live cattle complex isn't trading higher but that hasn't delayed any progress in the feeder cattle market thus far. Meanwhile, the lean hog complex is continuing to trade higher as well, as traders believe demand will keep the market well supported. Soybeans are 1-2 cents lower at midday with trade working to build on the recent rebound with product gains slowing for meal and oil. Meal is .50 cent to $1.50 lower and oil is 5-15 points higher. Brazil harvest should be just about wrapped up, with Argentina bushels coming soon as the South American export season expands into late spring. Wheat trade is 2-4 cents higher with trade finding light buying so far. Trade looks to hold the Monday surge to the top of the range with condition declines and mixed outside market direction. DOW JONES: 266 Points Higher NASDAQ: 232 Points Higher CRUDE OIL: $1.23 Higher Both block and barrel cheese prices remained unchanged with no loads traded. The only activity was an offer for a load of barrels and an unfilled bid for a load of barrels. Thursday Midday Markets - Packers Offer Bids But Feedlots Want More Money; Corn, Soybean, Wheat Futures All Higher The cash cattle market currently has some bids being offered at $182 in Kansas, $183 to $184 in Iowa, and at $292 to $294 in Nebraska -- but still no cattle have traded. It's likely trade will be delayed until Friday as feedlots seek more money. This weakness put more pressure on Class III futures, taking them from higher prices before spot trading to lower prices with contracts ranging from 15 cents lower to 6 cents higher. Friday Midday Markets - Feedlots Hold Out for More Money; Corn, Wheat Futures Lower; Soybeans Higher The cattle complex is continuing to trade higher as traders love seeing the support of stronger boxed beef prices and are empowered to see the cash cattle market fighting for higher prices. Still no cash cattle trade has developed, but bids are on the table. Soybean futures are 6 to 7 cents higher at midday with broad product strength as trade continues to chop along above nearby support levels but giving back a little bit of the overnight strength. Meal is .50 to 1.50 higher and oil was 50 to 60 points higher with oil carving out a better level of support this week. Wheat futures are 6 to 8 cents lower at midday with trade fading yet again from overnight strength with immediate weather and political concerns easing again as longs take profit after the recent move. DOW JONES: 63 Points Higher NASDAQ: 9 Points Lower CRUDE OIL: $0.36 Higher Block cheese price gained 4.25 cents, closing at $1.9425 with five loads traded and three unfilled bids remaining at the close of spot trading. The barrel cheese price increased by 0.50 cent, closing at $2.1250 with five loads traded with only an offer remaining at the close. Barrels remain supported even though the price has moved up quickly. This could bring the block price higher to close the gap. Thursday Midday Markets - Lean Hog Prices Push New Highs Early; Corn, Beans Lower, Wheat Mixed April live cattle, feeders and lean hog prices were all trading higher earlier Thursday with hogs still pushing to new high ground. Live cattle and feeder cattle, however, have fallen back from earlier highs, showing caution ahead of Friday's on-feed report. Meal is $3.50 to $4.50 lower and oil is 30 to 40 points higher. Wheat trade is 2 cents lower to 2 cents higher with early strength of 15-17 cents firmer giving way to midday selling as the row crop spillover pressure picked up yet again. DOW JONES: 315 Points Higher NASDAQ: 410 Points Higher CRUDE OIL: $0.86 Higher Traders were bullish after the January Milk Production report and anticipated buyers would be more aggressive in the spot market. That did not happen but traders still anticipate it may take place. Block cheese price declined 1.50 cents, closing at $1.50 with two loads traded. Barrels cheese price increased 0.25 cent, closing at $1.61 with one load traded. This should have little impact on the market but traders are optimistic and Class III futures are significantly higher with prices ranging from 1-38 cents higher. Tuesday Market Watch - Aggressive Gains Develop in Livestock; Corn Hits Another New Low; Wheat Rallies as Dollar Sinks; Soybeans, Bean Oil Rise Sharply Aggressive buyer support flooded the cattle markets Tuesday, breaking away from the sharp and active losses that have developed over the last few trading sessions. The light holiday trade hovering over the market through the Thanksgiving break seems to have brought renewed optimism with increased overall volume as traders get back to work and focus on the upcoming market activity before the next big holiday of Christmas. March KC wheat closed up 21 1/4 cents per bushel, March Chicago wheat finished up 11 cents per bushel and March Minneapolis wheat finished up 13 1/2 cents. January crude oil is up $1.55 per barrel at $76.41. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 84 points at 35,417 with the NASDAQ is up 41 points at 14,282. The U.S. Dollar Index is down 0.400 at 102.80. Class III futures closed steady to lower across the board. Even though the decline of barrel cheese prices will have more impact on nearby months, later months also exhibited pressure. There is no solid support under the market as traders again saw that any price increase of underlying cash is short-lived.
