Farnsworth Group is proud to announce that renovations at HT Custer Park are complete! Our team was honored to be selected by the City of Galesburg to utilize a $400,000 OSLAD Grant to provide significant recreational improvements to this neighborhood park, enhance the park's facilities, and ensure it meets the community's needs. Project Highlights: • Demolition and replacement of a restroom building • Improved baseball field parking with a rain garden to address and clean runoff at the baseball field • Combined walking path and youth bicycle training loop • Picnic shelter • Inclusive playground with unitary surfacing • Accessible pedestrian connections between all amenities The park renovations were shaped through a collaborative design process led by Farnsworth Group. This process included input from City staff, key community stakeholders, and a public design workshop. The final design truly reflects the community's vision. One of the most exciting outcomes is Playcore's designation of the inclusive playground as a National Demonstration Site. Through an online survey accessible via QR code at the playground, Playcore is actively tracking community and user feedback for the City to share and showcase the impact on community health and wellness. #farnsworthforward #advancingourcommunities

Designer and Builder of custom play features and natural settings in New England - and prosthetic nose fabrication extraordinaire!
Commercial or Nature-based Playground Cost? "Compared to the cost of modern playground equipment the natural playground is a minimal investment with a lot of return". - As quoted from the attached article. Is this based on not wanting to invest in outdoor play or possibly some evidence that this may actually be true? I suppose that if they are planning on stumps and pole forts the cost will be far less but do they really believe for one second that kids and parents will frequent the playground? In whatever form it takes, I think this is a poor argument for promoting natural playgrounds and it makes all the legitimate reasons farcical. If one could even define what form a natural playground is identified by -just maybe, we could attach some numbers to this. My personal view is that a natural playground addresses landscape and play features on a more even ratio which inevitably drives up costs versus plopping equipment on a levelled fall zone. In addition, Natural playgrounds are very custom oriented and generally require more onsite labor which, in the case of a public project, will drive costs up enormously due to union-competitive wages. Nature-based playgrounds cannot financially compete with factory born playgrounds. They're a whole different beast. In time, as best practices and more companies get involved, costs will likely reduce but comparing and making equivalencies to commercial playgrounds is a misrepresentation of the effort to bring a modicum of nature back into kids lives. #naturalplayground #playgrounddesign #outdoorplay #playgroundconstruction #playgroundinstallation #playgrounds #playscape #naturalplay #customplayground #playvine #Murrysville #Murrysvillecommunitypark

Park Districts in Elburn, Sugar Grove and Elgin are among a handful of Kane County communities to receive grants under the state's Open Space Lands and Development (OSLAD) plan. The OSLAD program, a cost-sharing program between state and local governments that helps communities fund land acquisition and development for parks and outdoor recreation projects. It's become one of the most popular grant programs in Illinois. In the most recent round of funding projects in the following Kane County communities received grants: Sugar Grove Park District – $600,000 Village of Elburn – $446,100 City of Elgin – $600,000 St. Charles Park District – $600,000 Fox Valley Park District – $600,000 City of Aurora – $600,000 Huntley Park District – $509,500 According to the Village of Elburn, they are going to use the money to upgrade existing parks including Liberty Park and Prairie Park. The village says Prairie Park is one of the oldest parks and was selected for a refresh and additional features, including a band shell, workout equipment, and new playground equipment. The Village solicited public input for what Elburn residents want to see at Prairie Park. In Sugar Grove, the Park District will use the grant to redevelopment Black Walnut Park. The proposed plans include renovation of the playground, basketball courts, picnic shelter, and the woodlot, also adding a multi-generational plaza. The Huntley Park District put out a release that said it was going to use the OSLAD funding to cover half of the cost of the upcoming renovation of Weiss Park. The renovation plan includes a new playground, a zip line feature, paved walking paths, enhanced skate park amenities, and a basketball court. Additionally, the gazebo will be refurbished, baseball diamond backstops replaced, and the bathroom facilities will be updated with vandal-resistant fixtures. #whykane #parksandrecreation #grants #goodforthekids
