UKSE supports unemployed young people in Middlesbrough to create sleeping bags for those facing nights on the streets, with a £1,500 Community Support Fund grant! 🙌 The six-member team, participating in a 12-week King’s Trust Team Programme, delivered sleeping bags, food parcels, and toiletries to those in need. They also helped decorate a room at Coatham House, a charity providing supported housing for young people. Sarah Thorpe, one of our Regional Managers, commented: "We’ve been proud supporters of The King’s Trust Team Programmes for many years, funding numerous Teesside teams through our Community Support Fund, which aims to enhance lives in steel communities. The Government has announced today almost £1 billion in funding for councils across England to help reduce and prevent #homelessness. This is welcome news, as more resources will be available for charities and frontline workers to help find secure homes for those rough sleeping or in temporary accommodation. However, more determined efforts to build social housing and the development of an effective homelessness strategy will ensure long-term change to reduce and resolve homelessness. 🙌 The second round of charities and not-for-profit groups received funding from the Sizewell C Community Fund today! At Sizewell C, we’re committed to delivering zero-carbon power, energy security, and economic growth for Britain while supporting our local communities. This round sees over £1.1M granted to eleven organisations, bringing our total awarded so far to £1.4M as part of the £23M Sizewell C Community Fund. These grants support communities most impacted by construction. One recipient is Home-Start in Suffolk, which provides free, practical, and emotional support to parents and carers through a network of over 280 trained volunteers in Suffolk. This funding is important to keep their vital work free to all, as Stacy says: "We don't want any barriers about someone being able to walk through that door." 🎥 👩🍼Home Start Suffolk will receive £201,881 over two years, giving them the stability to continue making a lasting difference. Cornwall Community Foundation’s Housing Crisis Fund: As we approach this chilly but, for most people, festive time of year I wanted to take a contemplative moment, for all of us who are lucky enough to have a home, family and friends, to give a thought to those who are homeless. Homelessness is a systemic national crisis brought about by several factors over many decades; but is at its most critical in Cornwall because those national issues have been exacerbated by perceived remoteness from population surges so building and retrofitting of appropriate homes has been way adrift of what’s needed, poor quality housing causing health problems, a large number of second homes within an already tight stock and a relative lack of funds and urgency locally. Homelessness extends from the dozens of people in Cornwall actually sleeping rough to those on the Council’s waiting list who are crammed into their parents’ homes, in very poor quality housing, temporary accommodation and substandard B&Bs. CCF’s fund won’t be paying for building homes – that can usually be financed by the organisations that back bricks and mortar assets. CCF is working with Homes for Cornwall, St Petrocs and other charities in The Duchy to unlock some of the keys to open the process of housing Cornishpeople like pushing through the planning process, legal fees, research, the move and so on. Volunteers from VINCI Building UK's project team delivering the transformational regeneration of St Helens town centre have worked together to support The Standing Tall Foundation, a local charity which is providing Christmas gifts and toys for the most vulnerable families in the borough. An event held in a marquee at the Living Well Building saw more than 60 volunteers from a wide range of companies help wrap, pack and deliver over 2000 presents. These were distributed amongst 50 local schools identified as having pupils with the greatest need as well as homeless families, ensuring the most vulnerable children have something to open on Christmas day. #socialvalue #communitesmatter #humility #teamspirit

Great initiative and great to see some movement in this space. I'm glad someone is getting some funding! I do wonder if the $10 million of state and federal funding was from a competitive funding round or just a discretionary decision from a politician and their "ad hoc" grants? $10 million for 23 one bedroom units @ $434,000 each. We are currently building a 3 bedroom disability compliant house in the most expensive building state in the country for almost half that price. It's very easy to spend millions in taxpayer money and then proclaim your wonderful contribution to society. Try doing it out of your own pocket. We have made a number of approaches to state, territory and federal members for similar projects in Southern regional NSW and the ACT for 4 years now and on the odd occasion someone has bothered to even reply, we have been fobbed off to wait for a funding round that may or may not eventuate. I already fund multiple community projects across disability, dementia, aged care, family and domestic violence, research and education all from my own pocket and it would be nice to see some contribution from those supposedly responsible for funding these programs. Once such proposal is to provide an Australian first multiprogram farm for people living with dementia and disability, people fleeing family and domestic violence and people in need of social housing ... all living and working in an inclusive, supportive community. We keep throwing out millions in capital grants to retrofit crumbling old institutional nursing homes but noone is interested in international innovation. The mind boggles. In the coming weeks we will again be featured on national television for an innovative intergenerational program that has been fully funded by Community Home Australia. My personal contribution to community projects now exceeds $4 million.
