Going to the AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustic Conference next week in Rome? Lucky you! I would recommend to check out these presentations by Simon Bouley and colleagues! Why I like this research work? Here's the deal: You are an aero-acoustic engineer doing aero-acoustic wind tunnel studies. Business as usual. BUT! Imagine you could see the studied noise sources right there, in front of you. And imagine that you could sneak inside the flow and you could put your ear next to these sources. Imagine to be able to know each sources' frequency content, strength, directivity, and that you can move away walls and obstacles in a snap of a finger... What would you do with those super-powers?

Of course, this is a special week: the entire European space sector is delighted with last night's good news regarding Ariane 6, which should give us collective confidence – but we should not bury our heads in the sand: the economic situation in the sector has deteriorated significantly. The challenge now is to determine with our institutional partners and customers how to react: what is at stake is not only the space sector sustainability & profitability, it is about the collective effort that urgently needs to be made to maintain the capabilities that Europe collectively needs. With every company that downsizes, Europe risks losing key capabilities that can take ages to rebuild. Many many thanks to all the industries, members and non-members, who made this new edition possible – it is a relatively small step to fill Pierre Lionnet’s Excel tables but a giant leap for the understanding of the sector
🔴 The annual ASD-Eurospace facts & figures Report, the authoritative assessment of European space industry's sales and employment, was presented yesterday to the Press and the public 🔴

The Force Awakens... in Vancouver, Washington! On October 24, the ITE Sensorama strikes back against outdated technology. We're assembling a coalition of Rebel agencies, Imperial consultants, and Jedi researchers to share their ITS wisdom. Your mission: Present your insights on the ways of the Force (aka sensors and ITS). Don't let Emperor Procrastination seduce you to the Dark Side - submit your abstract now, before time runs out! Abstract submission link in the comments. Fear not, it's just 250 characters long since I guess the event organizers don't like to read much 😂

Decision makers in Germany like Chancellor Scholz and Minister Schüle are putting their eyes on key technology for #spacedebris and satellite laser ranging! #deeptech companies like DiGOS Potsdam GmbH are playing a pivotal role in keeping our space environment clean. Without awareness of where #spacedebris is created or located around our home planet Earth, governments do simply not have the intelligence to make decisions when international entities act irresponsible in space. With GMV, DiGOS Potsdam GmbH and IWF we are creating the world's first space debris laser ranging test network in ESA's space safety programme. https://lnkd.in/er_8_U-3 #laser #spacesafety #planetearth #optical #industrialinnovation #photonics
Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Minister Manja Schüle visited the DiGOS pre-integration & testing site yesterday. We took the opportunity to discuss the importance of Laser Ranging and to present our OGS for satellite laser communication. Very exciting event! (Photo: Reinhardt & Sommer)

The launch of the Delta IV for NORL-70 was the last launch of an ICBM-derived launch vehicle by the USA. That is truly the end of an era. Forward and upward, with commercial space! It is surprising to many that the commercial space economy has greatly exceeded government space for many years. These days global commercial space activity has been running over 4 times as large as global government space. The majority of the commercial space is geostationary communications, but that sector will no doubt be surpassed by other space activity in a few years, IMHO.
