Luxury watch brands are undergoing a notable transformation as they increasingly enlist renowned female designers to craft their timepieces, marking a significant departure from the traditionally male-dominated realm. This shift reflects a conscious effort towards inclusivity and diversity within the industry, acknowledging the growing significance of women in the luxury watch market. Take, for instance, Victoria Beckham's collaboration with BREITLING, where her brand's subtle elegance aligns seamlessly with Breitling's ethos of cool sophistication. Similarly, during Couture Week in Paris, Tamara Ralph unveiled her creation, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon "Tamara Ralph" Limited Edition, showcasing a fusion of haute couture and horology. This strategic #alliance between #watchmakers and female designers serves a dual purpose. It not only challenges outdated gender #stereotypes but also opens avenues for innovative design approaches, catering to a more diverse consumer base. GLITCH believes that in embracing female talent in watch design not only enriches the industry but also fosters a balanced representation, ultimately enhancing the overall #consumer experience.

When Emma Stone walked up to collect her Academy Award for Best Actress (for 'Poor Things') on Sunday night (March 10, 2024), she said, 'My dress is broken'. She mentioned her wardrobe malfunction in her acceptance speech with, 'My dress is broken - I think it happened during I'm Just Ken'. The dress in question was a couture creation designed by Louis Vuitton. When Louis Vuitton shared an update about that dress and Emma Stone on its social pages, particularly after her win, shouldn't they at least acknowledge what she went through? I don't believe they need to apologize because the wardrobe malfunction need not be pinned on the fashion brand or be sweepingly extrapolated as a demonstration of the brand's quality. Emma mentioned later, "They sewed me back in. Right when I came back, they sewed me back in, which was wonderful. I genuinely do think I busted it during I'm Just Ken. I was so amazed by Ryan and what he was doing, and that number just blew my mind. And I was right there, and I just was going for it, and, you know, things happen". But Emma was in distress owing to the malfunction, on the biggest night of her life (yet). A simple reflection of that sentiment from the brand that she chose to represent (as a House Ambassador) would have shown that the brand does listen and *is* with her in everything she went through - not just the unbridled joy of winning, but also the sheer anxiety of having to deal with a broken zipper in her dress on such a big occasion. Just something that amounts to, 'We know what you went through Emma... we are with you' sentiment, perhaps... as against a post that completely ignores what the entire world saw and heard. #marketing #brand #branding #socialmedia #corporatecommunications #corporatecommunication #communication

Before you spend thousands on that Louis Vuitton, spend some time with yourself building up confidence. It doesn’t matter how many labels you wear, nothing will look good on you if You don’t believe it so! A lot of people think fashion and style is all superficial. Yet, the amount of inner work that is also required in order for me to remind some of my clients not to pick themselves apart during the fitting is a topic that isn’t discussed. A good personal stylist understands their client’s inner work that still needs attention and how it is consistently reflecting in their outer appearance. So ask yourself, what does your style say about You? Has the time come in fashion for a changing of the guard? Great designers make way for new recruits in what looks to all intents and purposes like a new beginning Over the past year we are witnessing, little by little, a slow but steady change in which what we might identify with the old is being replaced by the new: Alessandro Michele has given way to Sabato De Sarno, Daniel Lee to Matthieu Blazy, Sarah Burton to Seàn McGirr. To name but a few. In future, Dries Van Noten will have new leadership to replace the brand's founder and Blumarine will appoint a new creative director to replace Walter Chiapponi. All this while Givenchy is still without a leader after the divorce with Matthew M. Williams. There is an air of change and the idea is that, with the exception of a few names too talented to disappear, we are destined to see a reshuffle of newcomers ready to take the stage. After all, at the time of their announcement, Blazy and De Sarno were also unknown names to most. Today, having presented five and three shows respectively, we can almost say the opposite. Having acknowledged the inevitability of change, the only thing left for us to do is to understand the reasons behind this reshuffling of the fashion world's top creative posts. Obviously, no one has the answer at hand, which is why two camps are usually created when faced with such a question. The first is the perhaps excessively catastrophic one, which wants a fashion world in a state of general confusion and therefore busy proceeding by trial and error to find a solution to its problems. With fashion increasingly looking at numbers, a younger generation of designers with moderate financial demands could be a small boon. #fashion #fashiondesigner Gucci Valentino #piccioli #alessandromichele #sabatodesarno

THE SUBTLE BUT SIGNIFICANT LINE BETWEEN INSPIRATION AND IMITATION. The fashion world is not one dimensional; it is constantly evolving, making the line between imitation and inspiration difficult to define. Designers often draw inspiration from a wide range of influences; cultural trends, historical eras, or even the works of their contemporaries. With this practice, it is important to ask these questions: when does inspiration become imitation? And how does the law differentiate between the two? Fashion law plays an essential role in navigating this gray area, offering a framework to address these complex issues. Take the case of Gucci vs. Guess, where Gucci accused Guess of copying its iconic logos, designs, and patterns. The court found Guess guilty of infringing Gucci’s trademarks and awarded damages to Gucci, making it clear that certain design elements especially those trademarked, are not “inspirations” but intellectual property deserving protection. In Nigeria, the thin line between inspiration and imitation is also becoming a topic for debate. The rise of local fashion designers has been accompanied by a surge in creativity, but it has also led to challenges with intellectual property protection. Many Nigerian designers have voiced concerns over the unauthorized copying of their designs, particularly by tailors and smaller brands. The lack of strong enforcement mechanisms and legal precedents means that many cases of imitation go unchecked. In 2018, renowned Nigerian designer Deola Sagoe called out several individuals and companies for copying her signature designs. Although there was widespread public support for her, the absence of judicial precedents in Nigeria, made it difficult for her to pursue legal action. Recently, Desiree Iyama also had a similar argument when a smaller brand copied her design in its entirety. This highlights the need for stronger fashion law protections in Nigeria. While designers want to protect their creativity, they also want the legal system to provide clear boundaries between inspiration and imitation. As the Nigerian fashion industry continues to grow and gain attention, these legal issues will become even more pressing. Ultimately, the distinction between inspiration and imitation is a subtle but significant one. Fashion law continues to define and refine this balance through industry examples and judicial precedents. So, what do you think? Should fast fashion brands and tailors be held more accountable for borrowing designs or does the industry need this cycle to thrive? Let’s talk in the comments. I love a good exhibition. Beautifully curated collections that tell a story of how creative work has evolved and how it endures over time. The Christian Dior Exhibition was well worth a visit to see how fashion captures mood of the moment from 1940s through to present time with theatrical and skillful couture. It included the infamous the T-shirt that rocked the fashion world in 2016 with the slogan 'We should all be feminists' on it. I don't aspire to wear Dior, but seeing the clever design, the crisp and elegant lines of the 1950s dresses up close was a real treat. In my coaching I often work with people on what their authentic identity is. I ask the question 'who are you?' and explore the alignment between the core beliefs people hold, the choices they make and the behaviours they demonstrate each day. It strikes me that the focus on what we wear and how we look is taking up a disproportionate amount of energy in life. What clothes we wear and how we look often is confused with what our identity is. I would encourage a focus on knowing what's really on the inside rather than just considering what others see on the outside. This may change the choices you make in your personal style. 🤔 So, the question for today is, if you were designing your own clothing that really represented who you were on the inside, what would it look like? I'm still mulling this one over in my own head. 🤣 #coaching #mindset #inspiration #development #growth #collaboration #expression #inclusion #storytelling
