A Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a digital identifier that provides information about a product, including details on its materials, origins, repairability, recycling potential, and environmental impact. The DPP is designed to be accessible both online and offline, often via physical data carriers such as QR codes.  The primary goal of the DPP is to enhance transparency, empower consumers to make more informed purchasing decisions and improve the designation of textiles, whether that’s for repair, resale or as a last resort, recycling. The DPP is a pivotal element of the EU’s sustainability strategy, derived from the EU Green Deal and the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), which came into effect recently, on the 18th of July. The European Commission will outline the specific information required for the DPP in the coming months, with full implementation expected by 2026 for products entering the EU market. However, some companies have already begun to voluntarily implement the DPP in anticipation of the forthcoming requirements. Our innovators are effectively tackling the challenges associated with adopting Digital Product Passports (DPPs). Some innovators, such as circular.fashion, EON, and Vaayu are notable examples of organisations advancing DPP adoption. Thanks for sharing Fashion for Good! DPPs will be instrumental in transforming traceability in our industry 🙌 More: https://passport.vaayu.tech/

The integration of Digital Product Passports (DPPs) is a game-changer for the Textile and Fashion industry, driving transparency, accountability, and resource efficiency. As we push for circularity in supply chains, recycling, and waste management, we must break the myth that circular practices demand a cost premium. DPPs are not just a compliance tool—they are a smart investment that turns sustainability into a cost-effective strategy. Circularity is common sense, and recycling is its most powerful tool. At Global Alliance For Textiles Sustainability Council, we stand as an alliance of the world’s largest textile recyclers, committed to making a difference. We applaud innovators like circular.fashion, EON, and Vaayu for leading the way. Let's continue collaborating to amplify our collective impact. Join us in this mission to make the industry more transparent, efficient, and sustainable. Connect with us at: connect@gats.org.in

Excellent summary of the potential impact of Digital Product Passports (DPPs) on the fashion industry! At Fairly Made, we've seen firsthand how the DPP framework can be a game-changer for supply chain transparency and circularity. In our recent webinar for example, we discussed how brands can prepare for these upcoming changes, focusing on the need for clear, accessible product data at every stage of the lifecycle. It's encouraging to see more conversations around this key topic, and we’re looking forward to seeing how the industry collectively adapts to these new standards. Thanks for the mention! DPPs are definitely an increasingly common conversation topic. Beyond compliance with ESPR (and AGEC LOI Decree 2022-748), there are also lot of interesting brand engagement and ecosystem opportunities. For example: DPPs could be used as digital keys for additional services, such as having a "press here to list this item on a resale platform" buttons, or granting the DPP holder access to online magazines.

Fashion for Good Love the innovation behind Digital Product Passports, but the name 'Passports' raises questions. Aren't we seeking transparency without divisions? We need a rebrand: a universal system that connects, a truly global, open-source approach. Open borders for our clothes, open data for our choices.

🛎 👌 It’s amazing how technology is reshaping our lives, including our approach to business and consumer choices. With sustainable fashion now easier to track, initiatives like @fashionforgood's digital passport challenge all of us to uphold transparency in the way we do fashion retail.

Great! Now, let's collaborate with the EU to remove NFC, RFID, and QR Codes from the DPP ecosystem, as they generate excessive waste. Fortunately, new #VisionAI technologies enable product tracking through their microstructure, achieving zero waste. 🍀

What a helpful product to keep buyers informed as they make purchasing decisions and circularity (and repair!!) at top of mind! Well done!

Fashion for Good DPP a few years ago started to standardize its presence on the European market, how about Americas and rest of the world? Additionally, how challenging is adapting DPP practices for a company that is sourcing its elements from different parts of the world? Thank you!
