🌍 *Largest Cruise Ships Worldwide 2024, by Gross Tonnage*   Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas 🚢 was the largest cruise ship worldwide as of July 2024. The vessel, which also topped the ranking of the longest cruise ships worldwide, has a gross tonnage of nearly 249,000. Another Royal Caribbean cruise ship, Utopia of the Seas 🚢, followed on the list, with a gross tonnage of over 236,000. 🌴 *Main Global Cruise Destinations 2019-2023, by Number of Passengers*   In 2023, the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Bermuda 🏝️ were the most visited cruise destinations worldwide. Overall, the number of cruise passengers who visited these destinations totaled roughly 12.6 million in 2023, rising significantly over the previous year and recovering from the impact of COVID-19. Central and Western Mediterranean countries 🌊 followed in the ranking in 2023, with around 3.9 million cruise passengers. 🚢 *Which are the Leading Cruise Companies?*   Two of the largest cruise companies worldwide are Carnival Corporation & plc 🌟 and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd 🌟, both based in the United States. In 2023, Carnival Corporation & plc's global revenue exceeded 21 billion U.S. dollars, the highest figure reported by the company to date. Some cruise news: The number of New Zealanders taking cruise holidays has risen to more than 80% of pre-pandemic levels, according to new data released today by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). The figures show 86,300 New Zealanders took an ocean cruise during 2023, the first full year of cruise operations within the local region. The result is down on the 106,300 New Zealanders who sailed in 2019, but in line with the cruise recovery seen in other parts of the world.
