We've been sharing how our Fastly leadership likes to build things outside of the office in what we're calling #FastlyBuildWeek – but at Fastly you don't have to be an executive or an engineer to have a passion for building. In fact, here are some of the things our Fastlyans have been working on in their spare time - from salvaged art to furniture and so, so much more. We couldn't be prouder of the passion and ingenuity of our community and love celebrating the innovative spirit!

Have you ever wondered how to keep your employees around for the long haul? Alan Reed, President of GWWO Architects, dropped some insights on our latest episode of Building Scale. He shared that their firm's average employee tenure is upwards of 15 years. 👀 That's impressive in an industry where many young professionals hop firms every few years. According to Reed, many younger people out of school want to experiment. They want to go other places, but once someone's been with GWWO for 2-3 years, there is a really good chance that they will stick around. Some of their team members have been with the firm for over 25 years. 🤯 That's a quarter of a century! 🤯 And it's not just about keeping employees, it's about celebrating them too. 🎉 At GWWO, they celebrate anniversaries at their monthly staff meetings. It's a fun way to acknowledge the long-term commitments shown by their people. Alan mentioned a quote, "If you love what you do, you never go to work." And that's what they strive for every day at GWWO. Want to learn more about creating a culture that keeps employees around? 🎧 Check out this episode of Building Scale with Alan Reed - https://lnkd.in/dZ3GtysF #buildingscale #architects #aecindustry #culturematters #employeeengagement

Helping Individuals and Organisations Unlock Their Human Potential, Build Growth Strategies, and Cultivate a Resilient Mindset | Executive Business Coach | Author of "Weathering the Storm" | Top 5% Global Podcaster
It was great being in Lichfield yesterday with Greenwood Projects helping them to gain clarity on their vision and devise a strategic plan. Appreciate their energy and passion for what they do for their clients, this was so reflected in the session, and I look forward to seeing the team do great things in the future. Purpose and vision are not only vital for helping the team create a guiding light but contributes to the resilience of the team too, below is another extract from the book I am writing on building team resilience: "Furthermore, a shared purpose serves as a guiding principle that aligns the diverse talents and skills within a team toward a common objective. It instils a sense of significance to the team's mission, fostering a culture where every member understands their contribution's impact on the overarching goal. This shared understanding not only creates cohesion but also ignites a shared passion and dedication. When faced with challenges or uncertainties, the shared purpose becomes a source of inspiration, motivating team members to collaborate harmoniously. The collective identity formed around the shared purpose acts as a stabilising force during turbulent times, allowing teams to navigate disruptions with resilience." Stay tuned for more insights! Get clarity to lead and manage yourself and your team effectively. Executive Coach, Author and Disciple-Making Movement Practitioner
What I (re)Learned This Week: Core Values Drive Your Success I spoke recently with a friend who owns a very successful architecture firm, one of the handful of well-established, A-list providers of high-end custom home designers in his metro area. I asked him about his approach and what were the things that made the firm successful. He told me one thing was that "we only work with nice people." I was intrigued with the phrase. When I asked him to explain where it came from, it was immediately clear why it has made such a difference: It's a core value. But it didn't start out as a core value, it had to evolve ... Before launching his firm, he'd worked his way to a senior leadership position in a much larger, high-profile firm. The firm's size meant that they worked on a broad array of projects with diverse interests, clients and levels of quality. This led to competing priorities and (ultimately) design compromises that he struggled with professionally. In starting his own firm, he found the greatest satisfaction, personal fulfillment and quality of his work came through focusing on the niche of custom homes. Obviously, there's a limited set of people who can afford this level of home, some of whom are "nice" and some who are "un-nice." "Nice" people are easy to work with. But "un-nice" people aren't open to feedback or input, and they usually have unrealistic and shifting demands that compromise the design integrity of the home. The result is a very expensive house that they aren't truly satisfied with. My friend has learned how to filter for "nice" people—his phrase for who he can serve most effectively to give them what they desire most: A home they love to live in. Plus, it makes the design process simpler and more gratifying. Core values are often more discerned than defined; they can come from reflection more than intention. They start at our core, and become evident through practice. "Only working with nice people" didn't start out as a value, but it has proven itself over time to target the projects that will be most effective for the business. It has driven his business' profitability, employee engagement and market reputation. What's one of your core values, and how does it drive your business' success? #culture #leadership #leadershipdevelopment #leadershipcoaching #leadershipidentity #identity

Day 1 of a #sharednarrative for #Plymouth! The POP team with amazing support from @annette and @jen our learning partners have been working on our #narrative. The aim is that it becomes a shared narrative with others across Plymouth. In light of recent events this feels even more important. The stories we tell ourselves have dramatic impacts on what we can imagine for the future. At our AGM this year we'll introduce a shared narrative for the city that we have been crafting this year with input from many, before hosting an open dialogue to dive deeper into our collective story. We believe that by sharing, and learning from each other, we can better create a future that's vibrant and inclusive: ‘more’ Plymouth, not ‘less’. A place where diversity, excitement and creativity thrives – we believe it is in the differences between us (liminal spaces) that the excitement lies. But in order to #BeMorePlymouth, we must first see more Plymouth. Come and join us for the conversation. I believe that we need a rebalancing #FromItoWe - this is what underpins the shift we need. When we start making this shift everything looks different. #economies #power #funding #organising #structures #recruitment #financialcontrol #risk #meetings #timeframes #decisionmaking #impact #learning #accountability and many of the rules we generally take as base assumptions start to unravel when we put the collective and individual into balance. Over the next 5 weeks I will be making a daily post taken directly out of this #sharednarrative. I hope this helps you engage with our thinking and our work. This is important stuff - we urgently need to hold conversations that actually matter. Not about whether mine is better than yours, or whether we are hitting arbitrary targets but missing the point - but about how we create the future. Senior Living General Contractor TX | BTG Podcast Co-host | VIP Ignite Experience | NIC Future Leader | Rooting For You
It only takes a few moments... When you walk into an establishment, it only takes a couple of minutes to realize whether or not you are in a place that has a great culture attached to it. And when you walk into a senior living community, it's no different. Where does great culture begin? With great leadership. I'm very fortunate to be in senior living communities around Texas and Florida often. I get to witness what great culture looks like and see first hand how leadership steers that ship. And great culture can be a major success factor if you're doing a planned renovation project. Even when The Bridge Group Construction has a simple construction project, in an occupied senior living community, there will be challenges to overcome. That's part of the process! But when there's a great culture in the building, it exudes into the project work and creates a smooth and desired outcome. Being on the same page, and on the same team is crucial in getting past those little bumps, challenges, and all the changes along the way. In the senior living industry, team members understand this better than anyone because they realize that there are bigger, more important things than a delayed delivery of a faucet or a light. So thank you... Thank you to the community team members - for keeping these things in context!
