Ok - no observed green premium for HRC in the US yet - but are there customers/segments restricting or favoring their purchases to the share of HRC supply produced in mini-mills, specifically due to its lower emission footprint? I guess this could indicate that a US "green" premium is already latent. Due to the low fungibility of steel grades and products, a green premium driven by markets should not appear simultaneously for all products or even a full family of products (e.g. HRC) and it may take longer to identify and isolate it within product pricing.

When it comes to developing advanced solutions, a look at evolution is often the starting point. A good example: Honeycomb structures, as we know them from bees. The honeycomb is a construct of high strength with low material usage. Combined with aluminium, this results in extremely light but stable structures. Properties that are a clear advantage in the transport sector. The lower weight of vehicles increases transport capacity. At the same time, fuel consumption and thus pollutant emissions are reduced. #aluminium #aluminiumfoil #alufoil #recyclability #packaging #logistics

The stainless steel industry is leading the charge in sustainability with a strong focus on reducing CO2 emissions. Through systems like the scrap-based process, which uses end-of-life stainless steel, the industry achieves impressive recyclability—95% of stainless steel gets recycled at the end of its life. Over the last 20 years, global production has doubled to over 58 million tonnes annually, driven by stainless steel’s recyclability, durability, and corrosion resistance. With CO2 emissions varying based on the scrap mix used, the industry is demonstrating how material innovation and sustainability can go hand-in-hand. Discover how stainless steel is reshaping sustainability and reducing environmental impact.
