Scholarships as an identifier of a great international school. A few days ago, Dr. Wayne Russell posed a question on his LinkedIn page:"What makes a good international school great?" https://lnkd.in/dJg5CFqk The ensuing discussion has been thought-provoking, covering topics ranging from the terminology associated with 'great schools' to the purpose of identifying their attributes, as well as the measurability and subjectivity of the criteria used. Unexpectedly, the presence of a scholarship program did not emerge as a single item on the list. Or perhaps it wasn't. For while international schools often highlight their diversity by promoting a spectrum of nationalities and cultures within their community, a frequently overlooked aspect appears to be the incorporation of a diverse range of socioeconomic backgrounds among their student body. “The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows” (Sydney J. Harris) Scholarship programs have the potential to transform communities that resemble mirrors, reflecting only a limited perspective, into windows, thereby expanding the worldview. While underscoring a school's commitment to inclusivity, accessibility, and social impact, scholarships can also create a pool of talented individuals who contribute significantly to the academic excellence of the school. UWC and Aga Khan Schools distinguish themselves as educational institutions dedicated to providing quality international education to a financially diverse student population through their scholarship programs. While not reaching the same magnitude as UWC and the Aga Khan school network, I take pride in the fact that my current school, Tashkent International School, upholds a tradition of offering scholarships to individuals from economically underprivileged backgrounds. Since the 1998-1999 school year, more than 70 Uzbek students have completed the Grade 10 through to 12 Scholarship Program. This scholarship encompasses school fees, university application fees, SAT/TOEFL/ACT fees, 1½ overseas school trips annually, and the initial flight to university. While this attribute alone does not elevate Tashkent International School to the status of being a 'great school,' it undeniably enhances the school and contributes to making it better than if there were no scholarship program in place. Alliance Director of Admissions ~ Transformative recruitment, sales-enablement and operations servant-leader
One of my goals as a leader is to make a tertiary-level education accessible to all who seek one. Twenty years ago, we were told that many jobs of today didn't exist yet. They were right. AI Engineers, Robotics specialties, Space Travel Sales People, and jobs with scientific words I can't pronounce abound. What hasn't changed is the need to educate and care for human beings. It's the reason I continue to place my efforts in the Healthcare and Education fields. They are my path, access-for-all is my passion. If you know of a minority child who can use assistance in pursuing their educational goals, make the United Negro College Fund website a regular stop. Scholarships open and close all the time. My current fave: 2024-2025 UNCF 3M Science. Applied to Life. Scholarship This program was established to provide need-based scholarship support to underrepresented high school seniors who are interested in pursuing a STEM degree, or college freshman already enrolled in a STEM degree program. Closes May 27. #accessforall #educationiskey #tradescounttoo https://lnkd.in/eSXSax7T

Healing Art Dealer 🖼️ I Bring Wellness and Joy to Healthcare 🏥 Commercial 🏢 and Residential 🏠 Spaces | Veteran Owned Business🎖️| Doctorate in Business Administration Candidate👨🏽🎓
Today is International Day of Education! Without education I would not be where I am today. I am a high school drop-out, who eventually got a GED, joined the military and then used benefits to obtain an undergraduate degree in IT and a Master of Business Administration. I am not working on my Doctorate. This education and experience contribute to "life-long learning" but also enabled me to start a business, see the world through broader lenses and network with people I otherwise would have never met or learned from. Unfortunately, many people are not afforded the opportunity for various reasons. Whether it is the cost, access, culture, incarceration, early death and many other reasons. There has also been a recent distrust in institutions to an extent, which in some cases has been warranted. In December 2018, January 24 was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Day of Education, to celebrate education and reflect on the importance of learning for development and peace. Imparting education is not limited to institutions; each of us has a duty to promote quality education. What most of us likely take for granted, allowing access to education can lift many out of poverty and pave the path for a promising future. I am a Student Ambassador for National University, which was started by a Veteran. They offer a multitude of affordable programs online and in-person. The courses are also accelerated and designed for working professionals. I am also in the Doctor of Business program at Westcliff University, where I am currently in my second class. This school has a demographic of many international students, so is a melting pot. Whatever school you choose, do your research. Sometimes a degree isn't what you need and that is understandable, but I found a degree to be very helpful to create more nuanced view of the world and have exposure to a variety of subjects and professions. Best of luck on your endeavors. - Brian #nationaluniversity #nufam #educationday #higherlearning #westcliffuniversity #veteranstudent #studentlife #college #university
