The Urban Remix panel launched onto the stage at the ULI UK Annual Conference sharing intriguing insights into urbanisation, the future of retail spaces, post-pandemic cities and much more. Simon Chinn launched a discussion of urbanisation with a reminder that 60% of the world's population live in urban areas, and which produce 80% of the world's economic output, meaning the future of cities is essential. Andrei Martin was next, talking about convergence – how buildings act as a city and cities act as a building and how these structures are aiming to be the solution to bring people closer together over the next decade and beyond. Ibrahim Ibrahim shared a citizen-first vision for our cities, creating vibrancy and community by creating a kind of 'connective tissue' – an authentic spirit of place and spirit of belonging. Next, Oliver Steele spoke about the state of cities post-pandemic, accelerating trends and change in urban spaces including remote and hybrid working. Oliver emphasised a focus on compact, biophilic cities as a result - people in cities wanting access to greener, more accessible spaces. The Barcelona Metropolitan Region City Digital Twin was presented recently at Casa Milà (La Pedrera), designed by Aretian Urban Analytics and Design and supported by Barcelona Global, the Torras Foundation, and IESE Business School. A distinguished set of public administration leaders, and prestigious private sector leaders and academics contributed to the event, hosted at the main Auditorium of Gaudí's masterpiece. The Barcelona Metropolitan Region City Digital Twin will be fully launched and available for public administration agencies and leaders in early 2025. As the world becomes increasingly urbanized, the design of our cities has a profound impact on the health, sustainability, and overall quality of life for residents. One key factor that is gaining recognition is the importance of making cities more pedestrian-friendly.

Was very fortunate to attend EXPO REAL (Messe München) in Munich with my Private Pension Partners colleagues with the main take-away being there are clearly four (4) very common driving forces in real estate development and investment management across the world: 🌆 Urbanization: As cities continue to grow, the demand for urban real estate is skyrocketing, leading to innovative solutions for space utilization and infrastructure development. 👵 Demographic Changes: Shifts in population dynamics, such as aging populations and changing family structures, are reshaping housing needs and preferences. 💻 Technology: The integration of smart technologies in real estate is transforming how we interact with our living and working spaces, enhancing convenience and efficiency. 🌱 Sustainability: The push for sustainable practices is driving the development of eco-friendly buildings and communities, reducing environmental impact and promoting healthier living. These forces are not just trends; they are catalysts for the real estate revolution I think we are already in! By embracing urbanization, demographic changes, technology, and sustainability, we at P3 are redefining how people use real estate, creating spaces that are more adaptable, efficient, community-minded, and environmentally conscious. The future of real estate is here, and it's transformative!

This week began with a visit to the city of Copenhagen, Denmark and a very special Kyriba client who I won’t name for privacy reasons. 🤫 It was my first time visiting this remarkable city and after doing some research and some exploring, I was struck by how forward thinking the Danish lifestyle really is. 🇩🇰 Copenhagen isn’t just a city—it’s a vision of the future. From sustainability to innovation, here’s why I believe it’s leading the way: ✅ Sustainability at Its Core: Copenhagen aims to be the world’s first carbon-neutral capital by 2025. With extensive bike lanes, green energy initiatives, and eco-friendly architecture, it’s a model for cities worldwide. ✅ Human-Centric Design: The city prioritizes livability with accessible public spaces, pedestrian-friendly streets, and a focus on community well-being. ✅ Innovation Hub: As a leader in green technology, urban design, and smart city solutions, Copenhagen attracts visionaries and entrepreneurs shaping the world of tomorrow. ✅ Collaborative Spirit: Its success lies in a culture of collaboration between government, businesses, and citizens—all working toward a shared vision of progress.
