It was a great pleasure hosting government officials from City of Wichita Kansas last week for a tour of our innovative Yawkey Housing Resource Center in Quincy. Wichita's Housing & Community Services department is exploring the possibility of opening its own housing resource center. In recent months, we've connected with leaders from Worcester and Amherst and from communities across the U.S. — including Maine, Maryland and now Kansas — who want to replicate our bold model to end homelessness. #changingthemodel #quincyma #brocktonma #housingfirst #NobodyShouldBeHomeless

The 2024 Point in Time count will occur on January 24, 2024. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allows communities to count for 14 days past the kickoff date to ensure that anyone who experienced homelessness on January 24 is counted. The count will identify how many individuals and households are homeless in a community, including those living on the street or in other unsheltered locations, monitor how homelessness changes from year to year, and assist with local planning efforts, according to Hennepin County. Last year, Hennepin County's Point in Time count found 2,843 people were staying in shelters and transitional housing programs, and 469 people were experiencing unsheltered homelessness. A recent Washington Post article sheds light on the severe shortage of affordable housing. As an organization committed to changing lives through affordable housing, we recognize the urgency of finding innovative solutions to ensure that America's working families have access to safe homes. The Biden Administration's $5.5 billion initiative aims to boost affordable housing and support community development, but it's clear that more must be done at every level of government and society. This challenge requires us to rethink our strategies, streamline regulations and promote new types of housing that cater to low- and moderate-income families. Personal stories from those facing housing insecurity highlight the human side of this crisis, reminding us that behind every statistic is a family striving for stability and opportunity. At Highridge Costa we are committed to rolling up our sleeves and working with all stakeholders to develop solutions that address these needs and advocate for policies that support affordable housing initiatives. Together, we can make a significant impact and ensure that everyone has a place to call home. #AffordableHousing #HousingCrisis #CommunityDevelopment #PolicyReform #InnovativeSolutions #HousingForAll #HighridgeCosta https://lnkd.in/e4vQEgrK
