📢 Transparency International UK and its UK Anti-Corruption Coalition are running a campaign calling on candidates in the upcoming General Election to #standforstandards. 📈 Almost two-thirds of UK voters see politicians as ‘out for themselves’ (IPPR, 2022), while the same number believe Britain’s system of government is ‘rigged to the advantage of the rich and powerful’ (Hansard Society, 2019). The UK Anti-Corruption Coalition’s polling from last year found that: 📈 political corruption will likely impact how 58% of the population intend to vote; and 📈 66% of the population believe UK politics is becoming “more corrupt”. THE SEVEN PRINCIPLES OF PUBLIC LIFE When MPs take office, they are expected to uphold the Seven Principles of Public Life, established in the 1990s by the Committee on Standards in Public Life. These principles define the behaviour/ ethical standards expected of those in positions of power: ✔️ Selflessness ✔️ Integrity ✔️ Objectivity ✔️ Accountability ✔️ Openness ✔️ Honesty ✔️ Leadership 💡 Learn more at https://lnkd.in/e9-vvu5W #election #generalelection #integrity #politics #UK

It is deeply disheartening to witness the list of donors of #StateBankofIndia #electoralbonds, revealing a concerning level of corruption in our democratic process. As citizens of a democratic country, we hold the belief that every vote counts and that elections should be fair and transparent. However, when we see influential businessmen and political parties, including the ruling party, involved in such matters, it undermines the very essence of democracy. The revelation of such high-level corruption not only erodes public trust but also tarnishes the integrity of our electoral system. It is a stark reminder that systemic reforms are urgently needed to safeguard the principles of democracy and ensure accountability among those in power. As citizens, it is our duty to demand transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct from our elected representatives and institutions. We must stand united in condemning any form of corruption and work towards fostering a political culture that upholds the values of honesty, integrity, and fairness. Let us use our collective voice to advocate for electoral reforms that promote transparency in political funding and strengthen the democratic process. Only then can we truly uphold the ideals of democracy and build a brighter future for our nation. https://lnkd.in/gNcwHAec

This week I am still continuing to do political analysis and my focus is breaking down what the Government of National Unity (GNU) structure could look like and what possible changes it faces. The GNU structure is the best for a country that doesn't have any party with an outright majority. It prevents a minority government forming which is when all opposition parties come together to govern against the party that won the most votes. This is an unattractive option because it means those who cast the most votes for the ANC would in some ways be cheated out of that majority. A coalition with DA and ANC would make markets happy but people wouldn't be happy and we could see widespread protests against Apartheid 2.0. Governance can only happen when the people enter into a social contract and hand over their power to politicians to be their representatives. If people feel the government doesnt represent them they will simply refuse to participate and follow the laws of the land. A coalition between EFF, MK and the ANC would make many people happy who think this is our Coalition 2 moment happy but the markets wouldn't be happy because of the EFF expropriation without compensation policy. The implementation of this could lead to the global economic markets rejecting us as they did Zimbabwe when it implemented its land expropriation policy. A GNU gives us the best of both worlds - a solution that can please the people and the markets. It also forces political parties to work together for the good of the people rather than narrow party interests. I explained all this and more in my interview with Business Day the other day. I also called out business for their role in state capture and corruption and argued that even if we remove all the current politicians if business continues to fund corruption we will end up back here with whatever new politicians we put in place. See Linktree for the full interview.. #politicalanalyst
