What do we always say about social media: It's rented land. You are building an outpost on rented land. Which is important. But you do not build the entirety or bulk of your brand on rented land. No matter what channel it is. Think about what you own: Your website. Your blog on that website. Nobody can take that away from you. It is the hub of the wheel. Social media and other platforms that distribute content from that hub are the spokes of the wheel. I have seen people up in arms over the years about changes made to their social media channel when it was NEVER theirs. It's Mark Zuckerberg's. Or Elon Musk's. And so on. Do not be so delusional that you think these channels owe you anything. They do not. I don't care how long you've been on them or how much you post or how many followers you have or even how many ad dollars you spent. You. Don't. Own. Any. Of. It. Once you know this, you can let the changes big and small roll over you like water over a rock. It's not going to stop your brand from being strong or worse, existing. If one channel going away or banning you can take you down, we need to talk about your marketing strategy. Like yesterday. #socialmedia #brandstrategy #fractionalcmo
