*How the Far right Frames Climate Change* [Have not posted this here yet.] If your research touches on political communication, framing, climate communication, digital network, and/or the far right, please consider giving our latest (open access) paper a read... It outlines how far right parties are picking up frames from their digital networks. I'm particularly proud of our mixed methods approach and think this could be applied and replicated in various other contexts. Code is freely available! https://lnkd.in/e_YuN5Kt

📣 One of the most important pieces of recent climate research surfaced what has — until now — been under recognised in the science community: If our future is to be liveable we need targets beyond climate; a liveable future depends on the interdependence of human and more-than-human wellbeing AND the resilience of the earth system. Safety and justice must be accounted for. 📑 In the paper (published in nature and available to read online for free), the scientists focus on how we can stay within five of the nine planetary boundaries that are critical to stabilising the Earth system: Climate, Biosphere, Freshwater, Nutrients and Aerosols. 🌤️🗻💦🌱💨 These boundaries are informing a new generation of interconnected science-based targets to help avoid dangerous tipping points in the Earth system. 📈 💥 We are thrilled to partner with Earth Commission and leading scientists to begin to explore what these ‘safe and just earth system boundaries’ might look and feel like...Our interpretations of the research have recently been presented at World Economic Forum, Davos. 👀 The work is now available to view online World Economic Forum where you can read more about how safety and justice (that is distributed inter-species, inter-generationally and intra-generationally) is imperative for a liveable future. https://lnkd.in/eyUM36v3

In 2023, 19 SCS events individually exceeded $1 billion in losses and annual aggregate losses due to SCS were close to $50 billion. KCC’s latest white paper addresses why 2023 was an active year for SCS, how much of the activity was due to climate change versus cyclical factors, how frequently insurers should expect this type of season in the future, and how insurers can better prepare for future SCS activity and losses with scientifically advanced and proven-accurate modeling technology. Download the report via KCC’s website at the link below.

Living in a world near collapse where global temperatures exceed 3°C 🌍🔥 Along with OS4Future colleagues Pilar Acosta, Joel Bothello, Giuseppe Delmestri, Stefanie Habersang and Elke Schuessler, we recently binge watched the fictional Apple TV series “Extrapolations”, a series that portrays a not so #desirablefuture in which the world experiences accelerating ecological and societal #collapse. We reviewed this series for Organization Studies since we believe it presents a valuable visual thought experiment of a possible future. We reflect on three key areas where us, organizational scholars, should direct our research focus: 📡 🌐 1. Misplaced #Hope in #Technology 🌇🔥 2. The Inadequacy of #Climate #Governance ⚖ ⏳ 3. The #Ethical #Complexities of Climate Action We were ill at ease with the fact that the series focuses on the impact of climate change foremost on the lives of wealthy Westerners. The stories of how the Global South is already impacted (and how this impact will be worsened) are largely omitted. 🎯 Nevertheless, while certainly imperfect, Extrapolations is but one artistic expression needed to effectively - and affectively - convey the consequences of the climate crisis.
