Well, after a 1.5 hour drive on the notoriously horrid M62 back to manc, an almost flat car battery (still getting used to this electric malarkey 😂 🚗) and getting home to the dogs having ripped apart my rubbish bin and eaten the contents.. 🐶 🗑️ It’s safe to say that despite the unfortunate turn of events this evening, I had a BRILLIANT day at the Leeds Digital and Data event and had a blast doing my first ever panel talk. I’ve met some excellent people today and think there’s some incredible talent in Yorkshire and lots of people that really care.👏💜 The main things I’ve taken away from the day are… ✅Tech and the Digital space is our global future, it’s how our infrastructures will exist, grow and evolve. We have experiences with digital products and services and use technology every. Single. Day. The quality of our futures lies heavily in this space. 🤔That being said, we need people with multifaceted lived experiences both personally and professionally, all with different approaches to problem solving and we need to remove barriers to entry, in order to get the diversity we need in our organisations and teams. (so that we build the right things for people 👏) ✅Let’s start looking at the impact on a larger, longer term scale. AI, solutions to global warming, robotics… the list goes on regarding the direction of future tech and this will affect each and everyone of us to different degrees. What does success look like if we don’t diversify? What problems could we create at this scale if we don’t get it right? 💜We must build products, services and infrastructures with everyone in mind and we need people in teams who represent EVERYONE ✨ 👏 Let’s Say no to group think and echo chambers, let’s challenge our assumptions and biases and let’s get the right people in our teams to build some excellent products and services (and other techy stuff that you really don’t always need a STEM background or a degree to do). ⚖️We know that the scales are out of balance - let’s hold ourselves accountable a bit more to change it. Diversity in tech is a winning recipe. 👏💜 #anddigital #tech #womeninstem #womenintech #diversity #leedsdigitalfestival
Congratulations Faye - I am sure you smashed it! You are sooooo good at communication and delivery of verbal information. If anyone can do it, you can!!😍 Sorry about your journey back, but it seems like you 'killed it' from comments below. So well done. 👏 👏 👏
Loved being in the room with you today Faye Murdoch - A really proud moment for me. Sorry you had such a rubbish trip back to Manchester - if only we had that transport infrastructure in place eh Paul Connell? Great to see Shavana P. on the panel with you too. 👏🏻
Noooo sorry to hear about your journey back! Glad you came!
