So #GCSEs have begun... But you can support your students presently on study leave by recommending these strategies at home, and proactively support your other students for all their exams to come! ⚡ Welcome to Thursday's #examseason signpost from STEER 🤝 Is this a student you teach? "I often question myself - what I think, say or do; what I look like; what my abilities are. I doubt if anyone will notice or value me and can easily feel overlooked or dismissed. I usually notice what's happening around me though and can be overly sensitive or empathic at times. I'm easily affected by what other people do or say and can react strongly to feedback. If I was struggling, I would doubt if I had the skills, qualities and resources to overcome these challenges." 💭 At STEER Education, we call this a student who has a low Trust of Self. Students with a lower Trust of Self have a less defined sense of self. They are more questioning of their own qualities, skills, ideas and opinions and more influenced by what is happening around them. https://lnkd.in/eVuGVBy9 Here's a learning risk 🚨 for that student that came to mind: They may be over sensitive to feedback, making me defensive or overly compliant. As teachers, we can help them in the long term to build #resilience and #agency to choose how this feedback influences them with these simple strategies: 💡 When you see them struggling, be careful not to step in and remove the struggle, see it as an opportunity to build their resilience. 1. Acknowledge and validate their frustration “I can see you're feeling frustrated. "What you're trying to do is very challenging.'' 2. Show confidence in their ability to overcome it. "I'm really proud of you for not giving up. You'll get there!" 3. Offer your support. "What can I do to support you?” 💪 💡 Notice times when they can ruminate on negative comments. A visual strategy can help! "Let's imagine that comment as a weed that has been planted in your garden. If we keep thinking about it, we water it and then it takes root and grows. Or we can choose to pull that weed out and put it on the bonfire!'' Help them identify a situation where this strategy could help, and try it out! Did it work? 🌿 Got anything you've tried that you can lend in the comments? Over the past 9 years and with a whole lot of classroom experience, STEER has developed over 3,000 strategies to develop students' #selfregulation, which underpins their #learning #socialemotionalhealth #mentalhealth Our unique assessment will identify the #risks of each of your students and guide you through proactively supporting them-having a positive impact on 8/10 of your students! 👉 https://lnkd.in/eMK7bf-Y My last signpost targeted a different sort of student... want to see whether you recognise them too? https://lnkd.in/etbsM3ib

STEER | Find and reduce the hidden mental health and safeguarding risks that surveys miss | STEER's innovative toolkit prioritises which students need support both in and out of school
Love the focus on #feedback in today's signpost! Because #constructivecriticism is the route to improvement and progression, which is the aim of #revision, and the school year as a whole. If teachers are able to make their students' robust to their feedback (emotionally) and receptive (academically), then that is a solid combo for #learning. I know I, for one, had to teach myself distance between myself and my work, such that a grade did not have a disproportionate weight on me, and critical feedback destroy me... #Examresults, afterall, are an ultimate type of feedback- if only schools gave a lesson on how to receive those, with #perspective and balance.

STEER’s #ExamSeason Signposts! (Giving you proactive strategies to signposts your students as they steer the road of #exams 💪 ) Do you recognise this student? "I like things to change. I get bored if things stay the same. I like trying new things because having a go and exploring is what matters to me. I'd rather do something quick than do it right! It's exciting meeting new people; it can be a bit dull hanging out with the same people. You see I like surprises and risks! If I was struggling, I'd find a way to take my mind off it, which may lead to some unhealthy coping strategies which may be hidden." 💭 At STEER Education, we call this a student who has a high Seeking Change. Students with a higher Seeking Change seek novelty, exploration and change. They may seek out new relationships, opportunities, ideas and goals. https://lnkd.in/e7EmGmWh Students who 'steer' Seeking Change make wise decisions in situations like these: 💭 Should I stick to tplan or try something different? 💭 Do I need to keep practising this skill, revising this knowledge? 💭 Do I need a routine to help me organise myself? Here's a learning risk 🚨 for that student that came to mind: They may not plan, prepare, check, or organise their learning as well as they should. Here's a couple strategies you can try to support them as they go into exam season: 💡 Are they flippant in approaching tasks? Doing the wrong question; missing out on a key part; or misreading the question? Teach them a failsafe process for reading instructions. This might include: 1. Read the question out loud. 2. Circle the keywords 3. Draw a box around numbers, dates, or names. ✏ 💡 They may be overly optimistic about how easy or quick something is going to be to do, impulsively start on a task, without setting aside the right amount of time, effort, or resource to complete it. Next time this happens, model how to break the task down, anticipating how much time, effort, or resource it will take to achieve it. ⏲ Got any things you've tried that you can lend in the comments? Over the past 9 years and with a whole lot of classroom experience, STEER has developed over 3,000 strategies to develop students' self-regulation, which underpins their #learning #socialemotionalhealth #mentalhealth Our unique assessment will identify the risks of each of your students and guide you through proactively supporting them-having a positive impact on 8/10 of your students! https://lnkd.in/eMK7bf-Y #evidencebased See you for the next exam season signpost, so you can support another of your students!

The parents have an important role to play in the preparation and writing of examinations. Begin with planning the study timetable to leave out cramming in the last days before the test. Designate a study area with limited distractions and ensure that one takes short breaks to avoid stress and maintain concentration. Choose a combination of study aids like flashcards, online quizzes, or group study sections to accommodate the students’ informational preferences. Encourage your child to solve and complete past tests to help them become accustomed to the format and the time taken. Do not overlook the fact that they need regular rest, proper diet, and exercise so that their minds are bright and their bodies alert. Finally, it is crucial to use positive feedback to encourage them and make them believe in themselves. How It Works At HPLS, you get an opportunity to interact with professional teachers to give your learning a face-to-face approach. #ParentalSupport #TestPrep #EffectiveLearning #StudyTips #StudentSuccess #ParentingTips #LearningJourney #EducationMatters #StudySkills #AcademicSuccess #TestStrategies #LearningEnvironment #StudyRoutine #BalancedLearning #ConfidenceBuilding #StudentLife #HealthyHabits #MotivateStudents #PositiveReinforcement #PersonalizedLearning #FamilySupport #EducationalSupport #Flashcards #OnlineQuizzes #StudyGroups #PastTests #StudyBreaks #SleepWell #HealthyEating #PhysicalActivity

FREE WEBINAR – HOW TO STUDY EFFECTIVELY [Thursday the 20th of June, 18:00 (Athens time)] Are your students effective learners – or do they still use antiquated methods when trying to learn something? And what about you? Do you make the most of your study time? 😊 If your answer to the first question is ‘No’ and to the second ‘Eeeer – perhaps not’, then why not attend this free webinar? [And if you think it might be helpful, why not tell some of your friends – or indeed some of your students too? 😊 ] To register for the event, click here: https://lnkd.in/d_EHUFj4 HOW TO STUDY EFFECTIVELY Imagine you want to workout and build a nice body. Will a good gymnast ever tell you: ‘OK – walk into the gym, pick up the heaviest dumbbells you can find, and do as many reps as you can for as long as you can.’? Of course not. Yet very often this is exactly our students’ approach when studying English. It does not have to be like this. In the past few decades, cognitive scientists have identified some key principles which can help people learn faster, with less effort and then retain what they have learned for much longer than they otherwise would. In this very practical workshop, we are going to look at five of these principles and illustrate each of these with easy-to-use activities which you can try out with your learners tomorrow.

Knowing that a #teachers joy is when all his students pass his subjects and the combinations, but this is not enough. It's all about seeing them progressing in the next step and every aspect of life. ____________________________ #For the few years I have spent in teaching, it's not all that those who top the class Will be more successful in the next level or in life than others, it's upon your determination, family support, courage or commitment and luck. You will witness a child who came to advanced level with Distinction or good credits but this doesn't stand with #passing at a level. #Assessment in one level is to lead you to another level not to easily predict your performance in next level even before starting, however for few learners they continue with energy and pass with even better grades and principals that can easily be projected to their #previous level performance. #A_student needs guidance and help to choose the combinations for next level, though some parents tend to push learners to pursue some courses. #mathworldankwasa #educationalleadership #guidanceandsupport #learninganddevelopment
