Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of hosting Letisha Marrero of EdTrust for a special book talk on her debut novel, Salsa Magic! This middle grade novel is a story of self-discovery, family history, and ancestral spirituality, inspiring discourse on the importance of Latinx representation in literature across genres and audiences. Thank you, Letisha, for contributing to the body of work highlighting these valuable stories!

“It is a dramatic novel, filled with action, extraordinary description about Charley’s life as a man. It’s a page-turner and the novel draws you from the first page until you have turned the last page.” ~ @Goodreads review of "The Whip" by Karen Kondazian @karenkondazian #karenkondazian #TheWhip #BookRecommendation #HistoricalFiction #BookReview #MustRead

But the truth is, most beginners all ask the same July 4th questions: What are some must-read books about American history? How can I make my July 4th celebration more educational? What are some fun activities for kids on July 4th? So I want to answer them for free: 1️⃣ Check out books like '1776' by David McCullough or 'Founding Brothers' by Joseph Ellis. 2️⃣ Incorporate historical facts into your festivities. Discuss the Declaration of Independence! 3️⃣ Organize a scavenger hunt with historical clues or make patriotic crafts. Share July 4th insights! #July4thReads #BookLovers #IndependenceDay

What can be learned from a book about its #history? A book can tell us a story—not only with the help of the content itself but also with the aid of small clues hidden within it. We must ask ourselves: Was it given as a gift? What collection did it come from, a private or public one? We have to check if it has a dedication, and decipher who the owners were. In the project 'The Library of Lost Books,' we seek to trace the books from the library of the Higher Institute for Jewish Studies in Berlin, which was looted by the Nazis and scattered around the world. With the help of all those little clues, we can trace the history and determine through whose hands the books passed until they reached us. Slowly, we will find all those lost books. "The way that we talk about history - be it our own personal history or something on a grander scale - says a lot more about who we are, what our morals and values and agendas are, than anything that actually happened in the past." Last month I got to chat with Lucy Nathan over at BookBrunch about my debut novel SARGASSA, worldbuilding, the road to traditional publication, and why straightness might be a cult.
