237 years ago, thirty-nine courageous men came together in Philadelphia to sign the U.S. Constitution. This remarkable document became the guiding force behind the unification of several federations into one nation, and has created one of the strongest democracies in modern history. The ideas that shaped our constitution were forged from centuries of ideals that sought to place the people at the forefront of governance. The rights of the individual, equality among men, and a representative government were the basis of this American experiment. As we celebrate this 237th anniversary of the signing of this landmark document, do not overlook the ideology at the foundation of the constitution. That ideological foundation is what makes America great.

#CulturalLandTrust - a great idea cities everywhere should support and learn from, as arts and culture organizations fight for survival, and space, in places dominated by exclusionary market pressures. #Mayors take note of the progress, and continued precarity, arts & culture org's are facing - creatively, legally and financially - in BC. https://lnkd.in/gisBvtcc

Theme for 2024, ‘Now More Than Ever’, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will —and must —continue. Now more than ever, the work continues. In treaty making, in truth-telling, in understanding our history, in education, and in tackling racism. We need connection. We need respect. We need action. And we need change. Now more than ever, we need reconciliation.

In today's political climate, it is easy to focus on what divides us, viewing the country through an "us versus them" lens. But every day, local leaders and ordinary citizens across the country are working to build a stronger civic culture and mutually supportive communities. Today, my team at the American Academy of Arts & Sciences released "Habits of the Heart and Mind: How to Fortify Civic Culture," a powerful new publication that reminds us America is united by people who believe in its ideals and who balance their self-interest with the well-being of their community and country. The report is a call to action - for each of us to find ways to drive healthy conversations with neighbors, embrace participation in civic life, and invest in what makes us a strong, diverse nation.
