The recent UNDP report from 2023 shows that gender bias is still a big issue worldwide. Almost  9 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 10 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 have these biases, and over 40 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 think men are better business leaders than women. This problem is deeply rooted in our societies. It's no surprise: I've faced it myself in different ways, from encountering stereotypical assumptions to facing compensation disparities and exclusion from male-dominated circles aka "the boys club". 𝘖𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥: I've also been fortunate to have supportive male colleagues and allies. They've helped me develop professionally, opened doors of opportunity, and empowered me to advocate for myself. Sometimes, they even believed in me more than I believed in myself in that moment. Joschi Jennermann, Tobias Friedrich, Fabio Tran, Mo Hamid - just to name a few. (Thank you - at this point 🙏🏽) Their support has taught me the importance of creating inclusive workplaces and it's made me realize that each of us plays a role in shaping the environment around us. Working together in this way amplifies the impact we can have on an organization and needs commitment. At GotPhoto.com | fotograf.de , I work with amazing women leaders like Olga Denisova and Leah Tharin. And I have honest talks with Benedikt Greifenhofer, our CEO, who challenges my thinking with kindness and awareness. This mix of perspectives is crucial for making progress. Being part of a workplace that values everyone, regardless of gender, is indeed a privilege. The below ⬇️ is a testament that we're heading in the right direction. However, there is still much work to be done in breaking down barriers. 💪🏼 Continuing to develop structures and processes within an organization that promote equality and ensure fair treatment is a goal I am committed to pursuing. Four years ago, I worked on an International Women's Day campaign. Here's the behind-the-scenes story I've never shared. As a result of an ordinary moment, my brother during a conversation with my wife over coffee, was surprised to learn that my wife's boss had taken maternity leave. He connected the word boss to a male position when in reality she was a woman. As a result of this misconception, I wondered why someone who is not sexist and believes in gender equality would make such an assumption? Just out of pure curiosity, I decided to ponder on this, I figured it out. I began to understand how society has deeply rooted biases in each and everyone of us, whether we agree with them or not. 5 months later, I was asked to come and do a Creative Brainstorming Sprint of 3 to 6 hours for international women's day something that would be impactful. Surrounded by brilliant women, we discussed options. Off the top of my head, I created a riddle that, when unsolved, highlighted everyone's ingrained biases. During my analysis, which I conducted months ago out of pure curiosity, I gained the perspective needed to come up with this concept for the campaign. All that was left was to refine the riddle to be more directed to the target audience of Mindspace. It has been shown that creativity is not directly linked to intelligence, but thinking and being curious are definitely important for making impactful creatives for businesses. This experience was not only fun but enlightening, emphasizing the importance of understanding human perspective, biases, mindset and feelings. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved. This is definitely one of those campaigns that I think back on and smile! This Friday 8.3. is Women's Day 💐 Further than just a day to give flowers to the women in your life — this is a day to both celebrate women’s achievements and to remind you that there’s still work to be done in the field of equality. The world of IT is often thought of as a future-driven industry. Technological advances seem to happen every day, and it seems that wherever you go, software is going to be a part of your day. So why is it, that the out-of-date gender roles still seem to be visible in this modern industry? The tech bro culture has been a topic of discussion in many forms of media, including social media, and for Women’s Day we felt it appropriate to highlight this. At Marvel Consulting, we want to do our best to promote equality in the software industry. 💐 Happy International Women's Day! A day to celebrate as well as to acknowledge what still needs to be done. 💪 International Women’s Day has its roots in the early 20th century when women’s rights were far from what they are today. The first Women’s Day took place in the United States and was organized by the Socialist Party of America in 1909. The idea quickly spread to Europe and on March 19th in 1911 Women’s rights activists in Germany and several European countries were protesting for the right for women to vote, for workplace rights and for social welfare. In 1921, the date was officially set for the 8th of March. 🌍 Nowadays, International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide, spanning over 26 countries and is recognized as a significant day for advocating gender equality and women's rights. However, despite the progress made, challenges such as gender pay gaps, limited access to education, and persistent gender stereotypes continue to impede efforts towards achieving full gender equality. 💐 At OPTIMAX, we celebrate this day by recognizing the contributions of women in our workplace with a small breakfast gathering. We exchanged stories about women who inspired us throughout our lives and we concluded that we would like to continue this kind of meetup both within the company and externally – to celebrate and acknowledge women and ourselves.   💡 Did you know? In relations to the International Women’s Day, I would like to take the time to appreciate all the inspiring, talented women I work with. My experience with Canon is that it is a company that takes an active stance on gender diversity, that being among employees or representation of female photographers among our Nordic ambassadors. While the tech industry tends to be male dominated, I have the pleasure of working within the Nordic Canon consumer imaging organization, which has a 45% female share. McKinsey research shows that over a several-year timeframe, racially diverse companies are 35% more likely to outperform their less diverse counterparts, while from a gender standpoint, companies with strong women representation are 25% more likely to outperform. In other words, striving to increase workplace diversity is not an empty slogan — it is a good business decision. #IWD2024 #InvestInWome

International Women's Day is just around the corner, so here's a marketing reminder for every single company who is planning a post or campaign around it ⬇️ Don't do it for show. Only do it if you're genuinely doing something of value for gender equality and women's rights. Because there's nothing more embarrassing than making a "Happy International Women's Day!" post as a company who... ❌ Has a C-suite composed exclusively (or almost exclusively) of men ❌ Doesn't offer accommodations for maternity leave or health issues faced by women ❌ Looks the other way when women in the company face sexual harassment I remember working for a company who made an International Women's Day celebratory post, even though the staff was 95% male, there wasn't a single woman in a leadership position, and one of the top people in the company made women uncomfortable around every corner with his questionable behaviors and remarks. Don't be the company who does that. Make your International Women's Day posts if you want; profit off your Women's Day campaigns if that's what you see fit. But if you do that, you better be doing something of value for gender equality and women's rights - - whether it be in your company, or on a higher level.
