We devalue what we have and overvalue what we don't. People spend their whole lives chasing the horizon without appreciating or leveraging what they have within their grasp. Stunning isn't it? Ever heard the "Acres of Diamonds" story? There are many versions of it because it's such a truism. A man in South Africa sells his farm to hunt for diamonds (but fails). The woman who bought his farm discovers a massive diamond while working the abandoned field and starts up one of the biggest diamond mines in the world. Something to ponder for your 2024: How can you make more out of what you have and how will you benefit, progress and thrive because of it? #life #lifeadvice #newyearsresolution
“The grass is not greener on the other side, the grass is greener where you water it.” - Sean Cannell I first heard Sean share this on a Think Media video and understandably it resonated with me. Too often in my life I have found myself wishing that I had someone else’s: • Career • Gadget • Holiday • Whole life It’s only within the last few years that I have found peace in what I have. More important than this realisation is that I can improve my current situation if I approach my allotment patch with care. My life can be far more beautiful and fruitful than the lives that I was jealous of by merely taking ownership of its care. So what’re you waiting for? Pick up your watering can. ••• Join 5,000+ people getting wiser each week by signing up to our free newsletter: www.wisernewsletter.com

Award winning community leader with a retail management background. Served on several community based boards.
I was tagged on Facebook in a post about cleaning up Toledo earlier last week. And it honestly got me thinking about the methods I use. So here's my advice, I've only been doing clean service events for more than a decade. You have to be Proactive: Organize with neighbors to start cleaning up blight, vacant lots, cutting grass. Make it a fun get together with your neighbors. When me, Adam and Larry started we'd grab a case of beer and just go at it. Chances are there is a neighbor who likes beer and has lawn equipment or a trailer. If you see something do something. Be Active: Plan something weekly or monthly. Small or big, the projects can and will have an impact. Be Reactive: When you see a negative news story, prove them wrong, show the naysayers that work is being done in your community. Build Relationships: Reach out to businesses, neighbors, churches. Build a relationship with the city. You don't always have to fight them. When you have a good working relationship things get done in a timely manner. Be Innovative: When a challenge arises come up with something different. We started the box truck clean ups because we were getting short of volunteers. Then the pandemic hit so we were really short handed. But the concept works with 2 volunteers or 15 volunteers. The impact is still effective, the return on investment is the neighborhood is a better place. Market your deeds: Brag about your events and efforts often. When you consistently show results then others take notice. Write editorials, share on social media, again Build relationships. People ask me all the time, how do you get on the news all the time. Well, I send out press releases every time, I share the results all the time. It called Earned Media. When we do events the media knows it will gain attention and the results aren't a flop. #CommunityService #Toledo

To program or not to program? As always, we leave the decision up to the couple but here’s our advice: The trend is 100% to go green and skip programs altogether. Only a few attendees grab them as keepsakes and most get recycled (or, worst case, tossed.) BUT there is a justification to print if you’re guests aren’t familiar with your wedding party, speakers, etc. and your ceremony outline does not include introductions. It’s just good manners to allow your guests to know who is speaking / standing up and how that person is connected to the couple. Another plus in the “print” column if your ceremony includes any unique elements that you’d want guests be able to anticipate, including if the ceremony is long so they can pace their excitement and cheering! What’s your vote - print or pass? #weddingadvice #weddingtips #weddingplanning #weddingplanningtips #weddingplanner #weddingcoordinator #dcweddingplanner #dcweddingcoordinator #dcwedding #dcweddings #dcweddingvendor
