The AI English Teacher - Teacher of Media Studies @ Ponteland High School. Former Head of Languages and Cultures Faculty @ PRINCE OF WALES ISLAND INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL | MEd, AST.
No, that's not what's happened. What Oak have done is produce an inferior version of a number of AI powered planning tools that already exist and created something that is in fact a waste of teachers' time. Did they ask any teachers what would cut their workload? No. Reduce unnecessary meetings, cut out pointless paperwork, fix the assessment system - this will save time. Support children with needs, give teachers better resources, smaller classes and more non-contact time - that's what will make a difference. This feels like a cheap and shiny trick to make it look like progress is being made rather than addressing the fundamentals. https://lnkd.in/eq5B765T

After two terms of research, conversations with staff and some PD we are making small but positive strides in the AI space. Thanks to CENET’s Fast Forward conference and especially the work of Dr Nici (adapted version of her integration framework attached) and Dr Danny Liu I feel we finally have our direction for AI integration: 1. Gen AI: Brisk has been game changing and its ability to work with all things Google, YouTube and the web. It has made a huge impact on curriculum planning, differentiation and student feedback. 2. AI assistants: Thanks to Danny and USYD, Cognini is going to be amazing for our students as they will have access to a digital assistant 24/7 that will provide quality instruction and a tool for checking knowledge and understanding. 3/4. AI Workflows and Automation: This is the area I will spend the back half of this term trying to find products that embed with Google and Compass to try and further streamline Support staff and teacher admin tasks (happy for any and all suggestions). I will look to continue to document this journey so hopefully it will make it easier for other people to implement their own vision into their school.

AI is a game changer in education. Here are three predictions of what we will see. 1. Private schools, or other providers, operating in states that have passed education savings accounts that allow parents to tap into public funds, announce that they are making radical shifts in instruction using AI. 2. Teacher union strikes related to concerns about AI “taking jobs.” 3. A moral panic about how teens are interacting more with AI bots than with people. Digital Learning Collaborative founder John Watson wrote about these and more in a recent blog post. Our CEO Lucien Bowater was interviewed for Schools Week on AI-marking. Our view is clear: there's a crisis in teacher retention due to workload. AI-marking tools, with strong safeguards, provide a way of saving hours of teachers' time and can offer excellent structured feedback to students. The tools (including ours) are ready now - let's not wait for another 40,000 teachers to leave the profession before we start using them. https://lnkd.in/eAUzMtvu #aiineducation

2moInteresting - what metric will be used to authenticate any software algorithm proposed for the AI Content Store, or will the content be presumed to be of value irrespective of whether it has as much value as any artefact of Snake Oil?
