2023-Sep-01 `Fears are growing over the number of potentially unsafe public buildings, following the closure of over 100 schools in England that were built with a type weak concrete. Thousands of children will not be returning to classrooms this week, as more than 104 schools and colleges were told to partially or fully close buildings due to the presence of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac). The aerated concrete responsible for the safety scare was also used in the construction of many public buildings during the 1960s and 1980s. This has raised concerns about the state of many hospitals, courts and prisons across the country and reviews of police stations, prisons and military buildings are currently underway.` https://lnkd.in/eKJ2SWDt

The new government is making its first appointments, and it's a breath of fresh air to see them picking people who aren't just career politicians, but genuinely fit for their roles. One of my favourite choices is James Timpson as the new Minister for Prisons, Parole, and Probation. The same Timpson from the high street chain where you might have had your keys cut. Here’s a few reasons why I think this is a brilliant move: - Advocate for the cause of rehabilitating ex-offenders - Proven business leader at Timpsons - Family history of fostering (you really should read about that!) - Innovative trust-based management style UK prisons are in a shambles at the moment—overcrowded and in terrible condition. Clearly, our justice system needs a serious rethink. James Timpson’s appointment might just be the first sign of more smart, innovative decisions to come. Here’s hoping it sets a new trend.

Founder & President | Experienced Public Safety Correction Management Consultant with expertise in constitutional governance, complex workforce operationalization & cost engineering.
The misconception of the obvious for many comes from caveats such as inefficacious metrics within budgetary assumptions that are vague in presentation and insufficient in quality due to their complexity, that only serve as half-truths in decision-making, and sanctions with nominal penalties, if any, for subpar service. The value of healthcare must follow truthful assumptions in staffing codification to compel the State of Illinois and Wexford, the vendor, to comply with the law in delivering constitutional healthcare standards. In truth, to redress these inhumane conditions adequately. As a nation, we are constitutionally woven to serve the People. A social plurality that must not allow divisive political dichotomy to abridge the rights of its People. Workforce operationalization absent efficacy within standards of measure will decline in quality and orchestration as haphazard budgetary assumptions maintain subservience to the unknown.
Medical care in Illinois prisons is horrific. The system is vastly understaffed (approx. 1/2 of the doctor and nurse positions are vacant), and the quality of care is far below constitutional standards. We at Uptown People's Law Center (with co-counsel from Dentons and ACLU of Illinois) have been fighting to improve the system of years. Despite its gross failure to provide decent care, Illinois decided to renew Wexford's contract to continue to provide medical services for another five years. Patrick Smith of WBEZ-FM 91.5 covered this inexplicable decision. I am cited. https://lnkd.in/gMJcfWqK

The ongoing staffing challenges in California prisons provide an interesting example of the complexities of fair compensation. What physicians and psychiatrists need to do their job well is nuanced. However, short-staffed facilities turning to high cost, temporary contractors negatively impacts patient outcomes and state budgets. This is a case where "best paid" definitely isn't the only factor to consider. #Healthcare #Union #StaffingShortage
Some of California’s best-paid public employees say they’re ready to strike. Here’s why

The Independent Monitoring Boards’ (IMBs) annual report, published yesterday, provides yet more evidence that the physical state of our prisons is getting worse. Despite spending a “record” amount on the recent maintenance of prisons, the Ministry of Justice still has some £900 million worth of maintenance jobs on its ‘to do’ list. Even if such a vast sum were available, all “non-essential maintenance work” has stopped because prisons are simply too crowded to allow for the closure of cells that such work would entail. No one can block our sun, no one can remove the leader from our minds and souls.., Nujiyan Bahoz, a fighter in the Women’s Protection Units YPJ, commented on the isolation imposed on leader Apo, saying: “First, we strongly condemn the conspiracy against leader Apo and the freedom-seeking people, because the one leading this people is leader Apo. With the philosophy of leadership, the people have developed themselves, and the Kurdish nation has grown and identified itself with this philosophy. For this reason, the occupying state does not tolerate this and increases the severity of isolation on the leader. Consequently, the leader is resisting this isolation with unmatched strength, and this resistance has influenced all comrades in prisons. Leader Apo also sends this message: ‘Regardless of how difficult this isolation situation is, there are people who are extremely eager for freedom and have grown with this philosophy. This people has always gathered around me, and they protect this liberating thought with all their strength.’ We, as the fighters of leader Apo who have trained ourselves with this idea, say this to the Turkish occupation: No one can block the light of our bright sun. There have been many leaders in the world, but no leader had the ability to achieve freedom like leader Apo. Leader Apo based his philosophy on women’s freedom, saying ‘A society will not be free unless women are free.’ We will achieve the physical freedom of the leader, and we have a steadfast belief in this cause As a fighter in the Women’s Protection Units, my call to everyone who yearns for freedom: the actions against this isolation should not be limited to marches, but should be realized everywhere by reading the leader’s books and promoting his ideas. The more our freedom-loving people support each other and become a single voice, the stronger their response to the occupation. This will force the enemy to surrender. Therefore, our people need to stand tirelessly and be the voice of the leader, because the unity of the freedom-loving people terrifies the enemy I particularly address the Kurdish youth and Kurdish women: if they want freedom, if they want to be the voice of freedom for Imrali and respond to leader Apo, if their goal is to understand the ideas of leadership, they must join the ranks of the Women’s Protection Units And I repeat again that as fighters in the Women’s Protection Units: no one can block our bright sun, no one can remove the leader from our minds, souls, and hearts. From the moment we joined, we have been with the leader, drawing from his ideas, embodying this philosophy, and continuing our journey towards freedom and achieving the hopes and freedom of our people through the freedom of women. Therefore, we once again call on our freedom-loving people, with one spirit and one voice alongside your fighters, to break the doors of Imrali prison and achieve the physical freedom of leader Apo. 🙏❤️💛💚🙏 YPJ - JIN / JIYAN / AZADI
