This National Indigenous History Month, we are honored to spotlight the inspiring achievements of the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business (CCIB). In celebration of its recent 40th anniversary, CCIB has been a pioneer in bridging the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses to promote economic reconciliation based on mutual respect and shared prosperity. The organization has also cultivated meaningful partnerships and opportunities through diverse programming, tools, training, advocating through research, and commemorating achievements of Indigenous businesses and leaders that propel the Indigenous economy forward. https://ow.ly/6OVq50Srhxa FedDev Ontario remains committed to investing in organizations like CCAB to create new economic opportunities for Indigenous communities and further progress reconciliation. #NIHM2024

With $200 million allocated, DAEF is empowering First Nations to have a seat at the table, shaping policy, strategic directions, and legislative frameworks in alignment with the Declaration Act Action Plan 2022-2027. Only 12 First Nations in British Columbia remain before we can proudly say we have successfully funded all BC First Nations through the transformative Declaration Act Engagement Fund (DAEF). Why is reaching 100% participation so important? It's about unity, strength, and ensuring every Indigenous voice in B.C. is heard and valued in our journey towards legislative and policy alignment with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Every Nation’s participation enriches the process, bringing unique perspectives and wisdom that are crucial for creating laws and policies that are just, respectful, and reflective of Indigenous rights and aspirations. If your Nation hasn’t applied yet, now is the time to step forward and be part of this historic movement. Let's make history together and ensure every First Nation in B.C. is part of this transformative journey. #DAEF #IndigenousRights #BCFirstNations

During National Indigenous History Month, we’re grateful to the countless generations of Indigenous Peoples who have tended to the lands, waters, and ice. First Nations, Inuit, and Métis continue to advocate for future generations through their participation and leadership in impact assessments. As part of the Government of Canada's reconciliation process with Indigenous Peoples, we have developed a Reconciliation Framework with input from Indigenous partners, our Indigenous Advisory Committee, and our staff, including Indigenous staff. It is an important step in our reconciliation journey. Our Framework will put truth and reconciliation into practice in all the work we do. It is guided by four pathways. Today we reveal the first pathway: Cultivating meaningful relationships. Our relationship with Indigenous Peoples starts with recognizing their unique connection and constitutionally protected rights to their lands. Doing our work in good faith and with honour, integrity, and fairness, will help us deepen our relationship with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis. Check back tomorrow for more information on the 2nd pathway. In the meantime, you can learn more about the essential role of Indigenous Peoples in the impact assessment of major projects: https://lnkd.in/e82fZSd7 #NIHM2024 #Reconciliation #ImpactAssessment

An impressive 94% of First Nations in British Columbia are now onboard, engaging directly with the Province to shape a future that honours and integrates the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. With $200 million allocated, the Declaration Act Engagement Fund (DAEF) is a game-changer, enabling First Nations to have a seat at the table, influencing policy, strategic directions, and legislative frameworks in alignment with the Declaration Act Action Plan 2022-2027. Why is reaching 100% participation critical? It's about unity, strength, and ensuring every Indigenous voice in B.C. is heard and considered in the journey towards legislative and policy alignment with the UN Declaration. Every First Nation's participation enriches the process, bringing unique perspectives and wisdom to the forefront, which is essential for creating laws and policies that are just, respectful, and reflective of Indigenous rights and aspirations. If your Nation has yet to apply, now is the time to step forward and be part of this historic movement. Together with colleagues from the African Union Directorate of Sustainable Environment and Blue Economy, we have completed an insightful assessment of two African Union Projects in collaboration with PERI PERI U, an African Network of Universities. These projects being implemented through the African Youth Advisory Board (AYAB) and the African Science and Technology Advisory Group on DRR (AfSTAG) are part of the programme on the African Partnership Enhancing Discourse and Advocacy for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), APEDA. Exciting potential lie in influencing policy-making, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of development projects with DRR principles at the core. These initiatives align with the moonshots of Agenda 2063 STYIP. #AfricanUnion #DRR #Agenda2063

🌍✨ Navigating the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus 🚀🌱 We have various learning partnerships on the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus. Here is a rundown of some key learnings from Lezlie C. Morinière and Susanna Morrison-Metois on what we can derive from evaluations on working across the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus: 🚀 Unified Vision Needed: Diverse interpretations exist, underlining the necessity for a shared understanding and concrete operational guidance. 🕊️ Integration of Peace: A critical yet under-explored component. More guidance on incorporating peace and conflict sensitivity is essential. 💪🏾 Capacity Strengthening: There's a pressing need to enhance staff capabilities for effective nexus implementation. 🌍 Local Involvement: Amplifying local voices in planning and execution is crucial for meaningful impact. 🤝 Private Sector Engagement: Collaborating with the private sector and embracing market-based approaches can significantly contribute to nexus objectives. 🔄 Joint Efforts and Assessments: Encourages inter-organisational cooperation for holistic outcomes. 🔍 Monitoring and Evaluation: Multi-stakeholder guidance is needed to evaluate progress and outcomes. 💸 Funding Structures: Innovations in funding models are essential to address the siloed financial architecture and ensure balanced support across the nexus. What's Lauren Emma Burrows' (our resident 'Nex-pert') take? 🔑 Agree! The journey towards effectively operationalising the nexus is ongoing, requiring collective commitment and innovative strategies to (following the OECD DAC recommendations) 'strengthen collaboration, coherence, and complementarity' across humanitarian, development, and peace initiatives. #HumanitarianDevelopmentPeace #NexusApproach

United Nations Observances The existence of international days predates the establishment of the United Nations, but the UN has embraced them as a powerful advocacy tool. The United Nations observes designated days, weeks, years, and decades, each with a theme, or topic. By creating special observances, the United Nations promotes international awareness and action on these issues. Each international day offers many actors the opportunity to organize activities related to the theme of the day. Organizations and offices of the United Nations system, and most importantly, governments, civil society, the public and private sectors, schools, universities and, more generally, citizens, make an international day a springboard for awareness-raising actions. The majority of observances have been established by resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly, although some have been designated by UN specialized agencies. The United Nations also observes anniversaries of key events in its history.
