While the overall labor force participation rate is still below pre-pandemic levels, participation for women is higher now than pre-pandemic, and it increased the most for women with young children. A recent Chicago Fed Insights article by Camilo Garcia-Jimeno and Luojia Hu examines how remote work, childcare arrangements, and male labor force participation may have facilitated this increase. https://bit.ly/4fLnBzG #LaborForce #Childcare #RemoteWork

Statistically, mothers still predominantly shoulder the role of primary caregivers for children compared to fathers. Because of this, it's unsurprising that mothers of school-aged children had to step away from their workplaces amid the pandemic to ensure proper care for their children. Unfortunately, affordable childcare has also persisted, making it harder for these mothers to transition back to employment. To learn more about how the pandemic affected working mothers’ employment, check out “Mothers’ Employment Two Years Later: An Assessment of Employment Loss and Recovery During the COVID-19 Pandemic” from the Women’s Bureau, U.S. Department of Labor https://lnkd.in/gSUwJBC3 #WorkingParent #MLW #JNIWL #PositiveLeadHERship #workingmom #momlife #statistic #covid19 #employment #childcare

As access to #childcare is intricately tied to socioeconomic and geographic factors, it is important to note the disparities in access to childcare. Current data show that 60.2% of American Indians/Alaskan Natives (AI/AN) and 57.3% of Latino/Hispanic families live in childcare deserts--disproportionately higher rates than the general population rate of 50.5%. The childcare industry is ripe for innovation. The hybrid, flexible work model should help support more women to return to the workforce following the birth of their child, but only if there are childcare options that allow them to do both - stay close to their child, which helps aid the continuation of breastfeeding, and be productive and pursue their career. Imagine the impact on the economy - A workforce inclusive of mothers returning to work creates a positive economic ripple effect. Increased disposable income, higher consumer spending, and a more skilled workforce collectively contribute to sustained economic growth. #womeninbusiness #motherhoodpenalty #childcare #innovation #australianbusiness BubbaDesk

Child care costs more than rent in every state in the United States. (Tell us where you live and what you pay) Find that shocking? Me too. Let’s look at the math. - The average American family has 2 kids - average #childcare costs at $958 month - childcare x 2 = $1917 - Average rent is $1,517 per apartments.com Where rent is more expensive, so is childcare. This is making it untenable for dual income families and causing an increasing strain on women in the workforce. Families are fleeing high rent/high childcare cities and states as well. So share where you live and what you pay below, even if it’s international, will be interesting for us to see.
