We are excited to announce that Osservatori Digital Innovation from Politecnico di Milano has honoured Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS with a special mention at the "Digital Innovation in Healthcare Awards 2024", during the conference "Digital Healthcare: transforming the present for a sustainable future". In this fruitful occasion of knowledge sharing for the best digital healthcare projects in Italy, the mention has been assigned by FIASO to the AGILES Project, which is the result of a collaboration between FPG's Rheumatology unit led by Professor Maria Antonietta D'Agostino, FPG's IT department headed by Giovanni Arcuri, GDMH and AstraZeneca in order to apply Analytics and Machine Learning tools in support of precision medicine, aiming to improve the treatment of complex diseases, such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).  This ground-breaking project could improve the quality of care, demonstrating how digital technologies can be a powerful vehicle for innovation and change in the Healthcare scenario, as the analysis of anonymised data extracted from clinical, demographic, laboratory and radiological reports of SLE patients enable the development of the most appropriate treatment plans through customised therapies. This recognition represents an encouragement to pursue the innovation in the fields of Digital Medicine and Healthcare, aiming at the improvement of citizens' lives. Looking back to a successful event with ADI Associazione per il Disegno Industriale Lombardia . We participated into “The Design of the Immaterial”, hosted at the Politecnico di Milano in Lecco, to delve into how design and technology can create ecosystems that deliver meaningful and lasting impact. Our Engagement Manager, Annalisa Caravia, shared insights and case studies on patient-centric innovation, exploring Digital Therapeutics, Connected Medical Devices, and forward-looking health scenarios. Her presentation highlighted the holistic approach needed to design solutions that drive positive change for users and stakeholders alike. Luciano Galimberti, president of ADI design, explored pressing themes including the transformative potential of AI, its energy demands, and the ethical considerations shaping its development. The mayor of Lecco, Mauro Gattinoni, emphasised the role of design in addressing social needs, from creating inclusive public spaces to responding to an ageing population. Here are some of the highlights that caught my attention: 💡 Cyrill Gyger's QUMEA introduced a non-intrusive AI-driven patient monitoring device that detects even the subtlest movements such as breathing, enhancing patient safety by preventing falls and promptly notifying medical staff in hospitals. I love that this technology is totally in line with privacy and data regulation policies. 💡 HAYA Therapeutics is exploring the hidden potential of "junk" DNA to combat fibrotic diseases. Great to chat with Daniel Blessing on their work on HTX-001, an antisense oligonucleotide targeting a long-non coding RNA called wisper. ✨ Honoured to be a Speaker at Morning Health Talks in Kraków ✨ I had the distinct pleasure of participating in the Morning Health Talks organized by Klaster LifeScience Krakow, and I am honoured to be among distinguished guests including Maria Sanchis, PhD, Senior Open Innovation & Innovative Procurement Manager, EIT Health e.V, Germany, Jakub Chwiecko from Medical Innovation Institute, Dustin Boutet from EPAM Systems and Maciej Furman representing Comarch Healthcare. Together, we engaged in meaningful discussions on the future of healthcare. I am grateful to the organizers for their exceptional efforts in making this event a success, Beata Osolińska and Kazimierz Murzyn.
