Is this phrase from the recent TSB Final Notice still ringing loudly in your ears? 'The testing carried out by the Skilled Person identified that training and staff competency was a root cause of unfair outcomes in customer journeys for both secured and unsecured products' (point 4.77) There are few times I can recall the Regulator being so explicit about the impact of poor training but hopefully this will set the alarm bells ringing in some quarters. Training has made great leaps in recent years, and even more so now with many embracing the opportunities that AI brings. But along the way, I think some may have lost touch with the fundamentals of learning. I recently heard of a conversation where training and competence was viewed as something 'old fashioned and out of date' - really? Given the Regulator's choice to highlight the link here and in other recent Final Notices, I think they may see it differently. So if you think your company's learning may have lost touch with those fundamentals too, or you just want to check if your Training and Competence Scheme is keeping pace, then I have a some gaps in my schedule as the garden is a little quieter this time of year.
