I help federal data science and research leaders implement code-first data science with Posit tools.
Can't make it in person? Join us at posit::conf(2024) virtually! In 2022 I injured my back and could not attend Posit Conf in person, so I attended virtually. I made new connections and friendships I maintain to this day. It was an incredible value while still being warm, personal, and human. As Wes McKinney says, "I am not able to attend posit::conf(2024) in person this year, but I’m excited to tune in virtually for the live stream of keynotes and other talks of interest...The data science and AI ecosystems are developing so quickly that I always come away from conferences like these energized with new ideas and tools to incorporate into my work." Join us on August 13-14—from all over the world—to livestream the incredible talks and keynotes that will be taking place at posit::conf(2024). • On-demand recordings will be available shortly after the scheduled run time of keynotes and talks. • We'll host question-and-answer sessions alongside other attendees during the talks. • You'll also have the opportunity to chat, share, and learn with other attendees, no matter where they are, on our virtual networking platform. Last Saturday's TMCON was absolutely enlightening and full of energy! Even though I could only attend one panel session, it was packed with wisdom, thanks to Cynthia E. Chisom,Praise Alli-Johnson, Liyi Victor and Francis Sani O.. Here are some key takeaways that truly resonated with me: 1. No Copy-Paste Business Models: As founders, crafting an original approach is essential to set yourself apart. 2. Winning Over Family Support: If your parents aren’t yet onboard, show them examples of success in your field and let them know you aim to exceed it. Eventually, they’ll see the vision, It may take time but they will come around. 3. Stay Grounded in Your Goals: As a founder, clarity and a strong foundation are everything. 4. Real Problem-Solving: Solve actual, real-world problems, not just perceived issues, validate them first. 5. Take Action on Your Potential: My favorite reminder was this: If you are still being told you have potential , it’s time to step up! We’re too old not to be taking action. Each of these insights reminded me why I love gatherings like TMCon. Can't wait for the next one!

My colleagues and I joke that my most common response to a question is "it depends", so Rich Endean has featured it in my new LinkedIn header. But it's true! It really *does* depend! In the field of content and user research for education, it's rare that there's a gold-plated 100% correct answer that applies to everyone. What works for one institution will not work for another. It's why competitor research doesn't get you very far by itself, and it's why we can't just post the same thing on every social media channel. So yes, at ContentEd I probably will say "it depends" a lot. Unless you're asking me if you need to make an FAQ for your website, then the answer is going to be "absolutely not".
If you know, you know 👀 How many times will you be saying this at ContentEd Conference 2024 in two weeks time, Robert Perry? #ItDepends
