Being part of this list might not be the best thing for the club though, depending on the strategy of course.. (coming from an Ajax fan 😉)

I was surprised not to see Brighton & Hove Albion on this list. Thought they’d make it. It shows how the most recent events can build a certain perception in the mind. They’ve had a few sizeable and high profile sales with Caicedo to Chelsea being the largest. However, they had a negative spend for the few years leading into the big sales as they kept up with the demands of the premier league. That being said, I think they’re likely to break into this with a Mitoma or two big sales (unless they change strategy and decide to spend big along with the sales)?

Portugal is incredible good in building a great cost v quality product. Plus the ability to connect with everyone and to build bridges between south america and europe weights significantly. The strategy to buy in europe has increased lately with Gyokeres, Kukcu, etc is still a question mark on the cost v benefit but they raize the quality of the teams immediatly too. Interesting to see the mid term future of all this strategies.

Dinamo Zagreb is in top 10 worldwide on this list and they are playing in an uncovered stadium that is half closed due to the earthquake in 2020. Wondering where all this money are going considering they don’t invest in transfers. If Dinamo Zagreb was listed at the stock market the dividends should have been quite huge 😁

Fantastic post Federico. Many thanks. To answer your question, I’m surprised there are only two Italian sides and wonder if more might push into the top 15 in coming years? Off the top of my head, Fiorentina seem to do a fair bit of ‘buy low, sell high’. In Scottish football, Celtic are good at this too though the well is running a bit dryer than usual these days. Really interesting to see Lyon in 7th place - they were the only French club to feature in my recent post on ‘the worlds top 25 innovative sports teams’. Seems to be a well-run club in more ways than one!

I can definitely see Brighton claiming a spot on this list if they keep up their current trajectory.

Fascinating that 3 of the top 5 are Portuguese clubs. I remember many years ago that Ronaldo was part of a project to improve kids sport facilities at schools across Portugal. I wonder if that has any part in these results?
