Marcelo Bielsa’s press conference was a breath of unstuffy, uncorporate fresh air. I can’t remember the last time I watched an entire 45-minute press conference of this sort. It was a fútbol culture clash that only a Copa America held in the US could bring. It was on-brand for the man. And I admire that about him. It was spontaneous, risky. It spoke Latin American truth to American power. It was passionately one-sided and casually ignored a few key facts, a hallmark of his/my region of the world. There are a few things I wish he had said: 1) The US sports industrial complex has to stop acting like US sports fans and Latin American Hinchas are the same and behave in the same ways. They don’t, proven by the events in the Uruguay-Colombia game and last night’s pre-game incidents. 2) 🇫🇷 3) By all means, improve the experience. But don’t try to make everything the Superbowl. There are no natural breaks in fútbol during the game like in all North American sports. That’s what halftime is for. 4) 🇦🇷 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I watched the game on TSN last night with a feed from the US, it was like hearing a baseball analyst call it. The biggest disappointment was Canada losing that 3rd place game that they had in the bag. Also, love seeing Los Pumas rugby continue to get stronger and stronger. Happy to see 2031 and 2033 Rugby World Cups make their way over the pond. I'll be there watching! Vamos!
