MEP in construction stands for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing. It refers to the installation, testing, and maintenance of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in a building or structure. MEP includes: Mechanical: - Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) - Refrigeration - Boilers and chillers - Pumps and piping Electrical: - Power distribution - Lighting - Electrical panels and switchgear - Electrical wiring and outlets Plumbing: - Water supply and drainage - Sanitary and stormwater systems - Gas piping - Fixtures and appliances MEP is a critical aspect of construction, as it provides the necessary systems for a building to function safely and efficiently. MEP work is typically performed by specialized contractors and involves: 1. Design and installation 2. Testing and commissioning 3. Maintenance and repairs 4. Upgrades and retrofits MEP is often referred to as the "lifeblood" of a building, as it provides the essential services that support the health, safety, and comfort of occupants. #mep #engineering #construction #architecture #design #fire #revit #bim #electrical #d #autodesk #mepengineering #hvac #buildingdesign #mechanical #plumbing #sustainability #realestate #energysaving #mepdesign #buildingservices #ppr #amv #fireengineering #team #mepengineer #edit #autocad #anime #buildingengineering

When reviewing water schematics, we aim to achieve a lean system and take the approach that every fitting needs to have a function / purpose. For example, in the snippet below, there is an isolation valve paired with a balancing valve. The balancing valve is there to allow the commissioning technician to set-up the branch of the system with the correct water flow rate. The balancing valve can also function as an isolation valve, to isolate the part of the system if required during maintenance or otherwise. Therefore, the adjacent isolation valve is redundant and is not required since its function can be carried out by the balancing valve. In this example it is a Ø150 valve which costs about $250 to supply. It doesn’t seem like much in isolation, but across this project we have so far found at least 10 other valves which are redundant and can be excluded without impacting the system operability & maintenance. If you are working on a HVAC water system and have a schematic you'd like us to run our eyes over, feel free to send it over! ______ At MEP Engineering Co, we provide engineering support and shop drawings to mechanical contractors delivering $500k to $20M+ mech contracts across Australia & NZ. What’s the difference between a DP switch and a DP sensor in a HVAC water circuit? (DP = differential pressure) A DP switch generates a digital output. To help remember, you can think of a light switch i.e. on / off A DP switch will usually have a setpoint (e.g. 20kPa). Once the DP is over 20kPa, it will trigger the switch into the ‘on’ position. While the DP is less than the setpoint, it will remain in the ‘off’ position. They are often used to provide status feedback. E.g. confirmation of flow across a chiller vessel or a pump set. A DP sensor on the other hand can provide a continuous output signal, allowing you to know the exact differential pressure at the sensing location. They are often used to provide information which the BMS needs to control aspects of the system. e.g. a field DP setpoint may be used to drive the field pump speed ______ At MEP Engineering Co, we provide engineering support and shop drawings to mechanical contractors delivering $500k to $20M+ mech contracts across Australia & NZ. ALS MEP SERVICE MEETINGS The coordination of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems is a major challenge at anywhere. The process involves locating equipment and routing connecting elements for each building system. This multidiscipline effort is time-consuming and expensive and requires knowledge regarding each system over the project life cycle. Current practice requires representatives from each MEP trade to work together to identify and resolve interferences. Effective MEP coordination requires recalling and integrating knowledge regarding operations, and maintenance of each MEP system.
