Here is John Goolgasian, President at Seerist talking with Francis Rose in our new series OSINT Insights. Presented by Seerist & Carahsoft John spoke about the evolving concepts of authenticity and reliability in OSINT. He described the importance of tagging information to understand its bias and origin, and the role of AI in automating some aspects of data validation. Goolgasian also addressed the challenges of integrating open-source and classified data to provide a comprehensive view and discussed the cultural shift towards treating OSINT as a primary source of intelligence.

I’m looking forward to catching up with the OSINT community at today’s meeting of ODIN (the OSINT and Digital Investigations Network). Previous sessions have facilitated some really important and interesting discussions – from how AI can be applied to OSINT to the need for more centralised OSINT training – and I’m excited to see what we talk about today! #ODIN #OSINTForGood #OSINT

Open Source Intelligence, Multi-Source Intelligence Analyst, Creative Technologist, Knowledge Worker, Digital Sniper | OSINT
Most OSINT tools focus on the finding and collection of evidence, leaving us to keep linear notes in a word doc or similar. OSINT visualization often focuses on tangible relationships between two or more entities, but what about understanding abstract concepts and movements? Can a note taking app help solve a criminal case? Can AI help mitigate bias? Can AI write an intelligence report? I wanted to focus on tools that answer these questions. We will: - Set a common understanding - How to establish your level of security - Go through different kinds of OSINT tools (or tools that can be used for OSINT) - Focus on tools intended for other purposes - Demos! Most of the tools we’ll cover have a free tier or reasonable value-based pricing. I hope to see you 20th of August at Institute for Competitive Intelligence pssst… sign up… it’s open registration. https://lnkd.in/gP_dQ_Rk

Cybersecurity Leader | Securing People and Businesses Against Cyber Threats | Grown by Discipline, Fitness, & Philosophy
I jumped out of my comfort zone this weekend 🕵♂️. I've heard about Imagery Intelligence (IMINT) and how useful it is, but I never made the time to explore it. So, I took on a TryHackMe room that taught me the basics(link below if you're interested in doing it too). What is IMINT 🗺? 🗒 It's a discipline where investigators take an image, even blurry ones, and work backwards to find valuable information, like the exact location where a picture was taken, or who is in the picture. It seems easy, especially with advanced AI tools that allow you to search by images online(like on Google, Bing, and Baidu), but what do you do when AI can't help you? 💡 There are 6 elements of successful IMINT investigations, 1️⃣ Context - what's the source of the image and context behind the investigation? 2️⃣ Foreground - What obvious data do you see? Road signs? Architectural characteristics? 3️⃣ Middleground - What data can you gather from the centre of the image(if any)? Popular motor vehicle brands? Vehicle types? 4️⃣ Background - What data of interest is in the background? Buildings? Bridges? 5️⃣ Map Markings - Do you see road signs, unique landmarks, road sign styles, etc? 6️⃣ Trial and Error - Work through multiple hypotheses until you find the most correct one. IMINT is a cyclic approach. You go through multiple hypotheses before you find the correct one. The THM project was relatively simple(except for the last question) but it's different in real-life investigations, so going through hypotheses and finding the most correct one is crucial as lives could be at stake. The more you practice, the more you train your brain to naturally pick up on things. But it won't always come easy. Some investigations will require patience and commitment - that's why it's called a discipline. Having a notebook at your side to keep track of everything will help your investigations greatly 📓. 💡 Here's a link to that THM room --> https://lnkd.in/dtxSiJUP.
