The poultry microbiome influences the overall health and productivity of birds and four major ways. Firstly, the gut microbiota are essential for developing and maintaining the structural integrity of the gut and they do this through the formation of intestinal villi, crypts and of course, mucosal layers. These are all needed for efficient nutrient absorption. They also enhance digestion and utilization of nutrients by producing enzymes that can breakdown and ferment more complex dietary components into much more simple absorbable molecules for the animal to utilize. Thirdly, beneficial bacteria play a defensive role, and they do this by competing with pathogens for nutrients and attachment sites, by producing antimicrobial substances which can directly inhibit pathogens, and through the formation of a protective bioform that prevents the translocation of bacteria. Lastly, the gut microbiota interact with immune cells in the gut associated lymphoid tissue and this promotes a balanced immune response and also enhances the production of your immunoglobulin, cytokines and other immune factors. A robust and diverse microbiome promotes good intestinal integrity, which results in improved growth and feed conversion rates, which leads to more efficient poultry production. The poultry microbiome is established before the bird is hashed. And after hatch, the early inoculation of the birds has a huge impact on the poultry microbial. The factors influencing day this is the most obvious ones being environmental factors and of course feed. But also genetics and feed additives has a huge impact on the birds microbial. For the early stages of the bird's life, the microbiome is not stable and has a low diversity. So what is of major influence in the beginning of a bird's lives comes out as a huge impact later on when the birds microbial becomes more stable and has a higher diversity. Coming down to feed actives and early application is therefore of major importance for the poultry microbial. By an early application, helping the development of the microbiome in the right direction and efficacious probiotic product can make an impact in the got microbiome even though the concentration of the probiotic product is limited. Designing a cultural probiotic product is a huge and long scientific process. We need to ensure the product is safe and efficacious before putting it on the market. And going through a high throughput process, screening in the lab and looking at safety data, looking at efficacious data in the lab is being done before we even get close to the bird. So all of this has been investigated in depth for the carry profit supplements to ensure that we have a supplement if being efficacious on the microbiome for many birds in different regions and in different feeding conditions.
