National Recruiter @SNI Technology | Vice Chairman @Autism Speaks Atlanta Executive Leadership Council | Husband | Father
I grew up in blue collar Appalachia, something that I don't think anyone would know until I started talking about it (which, thankfully, I do often). In the 1980s, my hometown was basically employed by three factories, each of whom took what was supposed to be "a great avenue for North American partnership" (I was just a kid, but can still remember that [expletive] slogan) and turned large mills filled with generationally calloused hands working with pride into empty husks, not to mention turning 60% of the county's workforce into expendable dotted lines once the mills moved toward cheaper labor and away from generational loyalty that'd seen not just my parents, but my grandparents serve with a labor of true pride. My parents adapted. Mom went to nursing school when Dad took a correctional officer role at a prison so the family could have some income and state-level benefits while she was getting her degree. They were 19 and 18 when they got married, and I came along as a second child before the oldest turned 22. Mom became arguably the best nurse in the county. Dad rose progressively in state law enforcement, at his peak working directly for the Governor of Georgia. (Both live on a farm in the north Georgia mountains today.) In short, I know a little about grit, perseverance, and sacrifice, not from a book or a program or a course or a talking head on a podcast or screen, and I learned early on. I don't know what tomorrow holds economically for those worried about being impacted negatively in the workforce in 2024, but here's what I do know. 𝗜 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄: -- ... humans are resilient and adaptable. -- ... economies and times ebb and flow. -- ... lives are best lived when looking at least as much at the long arc as the short curve. -- ... I believe, with the three things mentioned above, that grit, ingenuity, adaptability, and a dose of healthy optimism in the face of adversity can take us to wonderful places when compounded over time. If you've been impacted by a layoff, even if you're not an IT professional (my work domain), I've got resources for you to help get back on your feet mentally, even if not in the form of a job offer. Interview guides, re-engagement guides, monthly podcasts with true industry leaders that want to impart their wisdom + experience in ways to help others... shoot me a note. I've got you. If you want to look at new job opportunities, I've got you there, too. Links in the below. Let's change the narrative if the narrative is negative in your line of sight right now. We can do great things so long as the dirt is under our toes and time remains on our side. Here to serve.

Consultant - Connecting Cloud Technology Talent & the very best clients at RED Global! | Founder of SheSellsTech!
On the train this morning and reflecting on the impactful documentary, 'Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story,' whereby she shared light on the challenges faced by individuals working in the UK, did you know 1 in 5 aged 50-60 have to step back from their careers due to caregiving commitments. This statistic underscores the reality of life's unexpected turns and the importance of not judging a CV by its gaps. As recruiters, it's crucial to understand the diverse journeys that have shaped their professional paths. Rather than viewing these gaps as negatives, let's recognize the valuable skills and experiences gained from caregiving roles. Creating a more inclusive environment and understanding can lead to a better workforce, that’s my opinion anyway! #EmpathyInRecruitment #CareerJourneys

Do you have respect for the people who are putting in the vital work to keep our way of life going? Sometimes we give value or a sense of importance to careers that are not vital to a functioning way of life. We need to thank those who are growing our food, ensuring our water is drinkable, building our homes, educating us, keeping the power on, getting essential products and services to us, and the other things that are a must to live. I enjoy a good movie/TV show, watching the game, and many more of the “nice things” in life, but my life would not stop if I didn’t have them. Let’s put a priority on the things that matter and thank those who are putting in the work to bring them to us and make it happen. #bluecollarjobs #tradecareers #careers #essentialworkers #priorities #BruceTalk

Helping executives land new opportunities | Executive Resume Writer | LinkedIn Profiles & Executive Bios | Former Fortune 50 | Featured by Fast Company, Forbes, Glassdoor, & LinkedIn News | Advisory Board Member
My daughter's favorite coworker is 83 years old. My oldest has 2 part-time jobs: One at Marshalls, the other at our local Y. Both employers see the benefits of age diversity. Joan (my daughter's coworker) is in her 4th or 5th act. She and her husband owned their own business. Now, she's working at Marshalls a few days/week. She likes the spending $$$ for sure. But she also just likes getting out. She loves sharing her wisdom with others. Studies estimate that age diverse workplaces are 1.1% more productive than those that aren't. So, let's revisit these biases and assumptions: Age diverse workplaces benefit EVERYONE. ♻ Repost to spread the word. #ageism #genx #babyboomers #genz #agediversity 🔔 Follow Colleen and Ageless Careers for career tips.
