Researchers from the Cluster of Excellence Collective Behaviour at the University of Konstanz and the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior have developed 3D-MuPPET 🐦, a groundbreaking computer vision framework for tracking and analyzing the 3D poses of up to 10 pigeons in real-time using multiple cameras 📷. This innovative markerless method works in both indoor and wild environments 🌳, enabling detailed study of animal behavior without human intervention. The framework represents a significant advancement in animal posture tracking and behavioral analysis, with potential applications across various species and environments. This milestone paves the way for non-invasive, large-scale research on collective animal behavior. The related research was published in the International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV) 📝. #AnimalBehavior #ComputerVision #MachineLearning #Research #Innovation #Wildlife

There are many side benefits to working on cognitive assessments. We have one accessible assessment that asks you to name as many animals as you know. Today, I learned that there are way more hybrid animals than I thought, and that their names seem to have been invented by ten-year-olds. Which one is your favorite? [#RevopointApplication] 3D Scan of a Cave Bear Jaw Fragment The MIRACO all-in-one 3D scanner was used to scan a fragment of a cave bear jaw to create a 3D model. Modes like this aid researchers in their investigation of animal age and the acquisition of crucial biological data. Through bone scanning, invaluable insights into the lives and habitats of species are being uncovered. Machine learning allows us to learn more about the intricacies of the animal world - in this case, especially elephants. Researchers from Colorado State University use machine learning to find a "name-like" pattern in the rumbles that elephants use to communicate. They were able to extract sound patterns related to specific elephants, and when they replayed the sounds to the elephants, they showed a reaction to the name! Absolutely fascinating! I link the paper and YouTube video in the comment section. #machinelearning #patternrecognition #nature #elephants

Interacting with animals (whales via audio callbacks in this case) is improving, and ML is helping understand "inferred intent" behind communication (abstract signaling). You can read about an example here: https://lnkd.in/gKuXZ73V
