FEI Chicago and our FEI Chicago Analyst & Associate Board gathered this morning to hear Christine Sandman Stone share tips for owning and accelerating your career. Christine is real, approachable, insightful and concise… and shared 4 incredible takeaways: 1. Ask your manager “What do we need to do to get me ready for the next role?” 2. Break your annual goals down by quarter to make sure you achieve them (factoring in time off, seasonal impacts, etc) and to show your manager that you’re fully owning the results you need to deliver. 3. Don’t ask for mentors, ask for coffee chats to discuss specific projects or challenges. It’s easier for executives to give you 20 min on a specific topic than commit to ongoing mentorship… and they’ll still get a sense for you and your capabilities. 4. Sponsors are different than mentors and they are crucial for growth. You don’t tell sponsors about your challenges- you tell them about your accomplishments and aspirations. Find folks at your organization who can say your name when you aren’t in the room. Fantastic.
