At 17 years of age, Weini Kelati sought asylum in the United States. She didn't speak English In 2014 she traveled from from Eritrea to Oregon to compete in the Junior World Championships, and never turned back. Without telling her friends or family, she intentionally missed her flight back home to begin a new life in the United States, with dreams of gold medals and a better future. She moved in with a distant relative, running before school and working as a cashier after school. In 2021 she officially became a U.S. citizen and will run the 10,000 meter for Team USA in Paris this summer.

Over Celebrating Bronze Medals: A Sign of Weak Mindset I'm pleased to see the overwhelming celebration of Manu Bhaker's bronze medal. However, this highlights a concerning mental weakness in our nation. Consider this: Countries poorer than India (Fiji, Moldova, Tunisia, Mongolia) are excelling in the Olympics We're not addressing reasons for our consistent underperformance These countries achieve greatness despite smaller populations As the movie "Rush" states: "If you were second, you were first in the list of losers." Yet we celebrate third place as if we've won the world. This behavior echoes what our freedom fighters and great saints warned: we remain enslaved by our mindset. Is it time we raised our standards and expectations in sports? #MindsetMatters #IndianSports #OlympicAmbition

Where has the press coverage been? This must surely rank as one of the greatest sporting achievements in British history. But it is far more interesting than that! Tracey Edwards MBE had a mission, a purpose and a Theory of Change. She wanted to find the best sailors in the world and she went looking in places that were not the usual spots to find the exceptional talent. As well as winning one of the toughest sporting challenges... bar none... she wanted to encourage more girls into STEM subjects and she wanted to prove to women and girls that they can be the best in the world - in what is still a male dominated sport. MAIDEN: 🎡FIRST ALL FEMALE CREW TO WIN A ROUND THE WORLD RACE ⛵ 🎡FIRST FEMALE BRITISH SKIPPER TO WIN A ROUND THE WORLD RACE⛵ 🎡FIRST FULLY CREWED BRITISH BOAT TO WIN A ROUND THE WORLD RACE⛵ 🎡FIRST BLACK WOMEN TO RACE AROUND THE WORLD⛵ 🎡FIRST AFGHAN WOMAN TO RACE IN A ROUND THE WORLD⛵ I'm watching first hand the skills and confidence that #sailing is giving my own daughter and I cannot think of better role models than these hero's for her to look up to. Not just her... me too 🙂. There are so many reasons to find this crew inspiring, if you are interested in #teamwork, or #DEI or #mission or #TheoryOfChange or #STEM then you will learn something from their story. And the fact that they won! Take that patriarchy! Go Maiden Factor! RACEhttps://lnkd.in/eZJDMP3R

Consumer Insights Expert Helping Brands Connect with Their Audiences Through Strategic Market Research
Prioritizing your well-being is not a career detour, it's a power move! Back in 2015, I made the difficult decision to leave NYC to put my family's and my own well-being first. Then in 2018, I took another leap of faith, stepping away from my career to focus on my children for a year and a half. While some might have seen these as risky career moves, they were ultimately the best decisions for me. Taking a pause, while a privilege not everyone has, allowed me to return to the same job feeling refreshed, recharged, and more focused than ever. Remember, prioritizing yourself is not a sign of weakness, it's an investment in your long-term success and happiness. #wellbeing #careerbreak #mentalhealth
Three years ago, Simone Biles made a bold career choice: She withdrew from competition in the Summer Olympics. At the time, many considered this to be a personal failure. “What happened to fighting through injury, working through stuff you didn’t really wanna do?” one sportscaster complained. Biles is now returning to the Olympics with a key lesson that all executive women should carry with them: professional excellence doesn’t have to come at the cost of your health, in any form. We applaud Biles’s decision to prioritize her well-being, and we’ll be cheering her on as she competes in Paris 👏

👏 Take the breaks, step down when you need to, careers are not linear. There is no perfect path. You can have gaps in your resume, you can move from director down to manager and back up to director again. And if you think I’m full of it, I’ve taken years off, and stepped down and climbed back up. I speak from my own experience. The proverbial corporate ladder doesn’t work for almost anyone . Life isn’t a straight and narrow path! Prioritize what you need and things will always fall into place.

**Eastern Cape: A Breeding Ground for Rugby World Champions** The Eastern Cape Province continues to be a powerhouse in producing world-class rugby talent, thanks to the competitive spirit thriving in its schools. These institutions, where a healthy yet fierce rivalry exists, are shaping the future of South African rugby. In just a decade, many of these young athletes will be wearing the national colors, representing South Africa on the global stage. Eastern Cape schools uphold Nelson Mandela's belief that sports and the arts are vital pathways to fostering unity and brotherhood across communities. This commitment to excellence and character development sets the stage for some of these players to rise to prominence. A few will even catch the eye of global giants like Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, following in the footsteps of rugby stars such as Siya Kolisi, Cheslin Kolbe, Aphelele Fassi, and Sbu Nkosi. Through Roc Nation, Jay-Z is extending the essence of the American dream to Africa, empowering athletes to make a global impact.

How do people come up with the idea of adding up all the medals won by the USA, China or the EU countries and deriving success from this? In sport in particular, all countries work independently and not according to American, Chinese or EU guidelines. If you see an EU team here, please don't forget that only 2 starters or 1 team are allowed to compete per competition, i.e. not 30 or 15 as in Paris. Apart from how the selection process within the EU is supposed to work, the medal haul would be significantly lower. In this respect, the medal table per capita is probably closer to the truth 🥇🥈🥉 https://lnkd.in/dgDFEGxr
