Congratulations to Sophia, one of the FEMA Region 5 Youth Preparedness Council (YPC) members who has been selected to serve on the national YPC. Sophia is a 12th grade student from Michigan who has been interested in preparedness since she first learned about hurricanes and the devastating impacts they can have on communities. Sophia is especially passionate about teaching others and advocating for people who need assistance during times of crisis. During her time on the national YPC, she hopes to gain greater insight into the emergency management field and career opportunities at FEMA. As a member of the FEMA Region 5 YPC, Sophia introduced Prepare with Pedro curriculum to local elementary school students and taught them how to prepare for thunderstorms and tornadoes. Sophia is very active in school and her community. She is the presiding president of her class and student council vice president. She is also a member of the Michigan Student Council Board, where she advises other students and helps them to become leaders. And she serves as a member of the Genesee County Youth Commission, where she works to address blight throughout the community. In her free time, Sophia likes to spend time with her friends and family. She also enjoys traveling, lacrosse, theater and jazz. We're so proud of her, and grateful to have her serve on the FEMA Region 5 YPC. Help us congratulate Sophia on being selected to serve at the national level!

Does your child struggle to attend school? Are you struggling to work out why they can't attend? This is a great place to start! Gently explore this fact sheet with them... Get them to think about these things, chat about them, draw or write about them... By opening up the conversation about School Climate we are exploring the reasons why a school is not meeting the needs of a child to the point where they can no longer attend. Sometimes we can instigate change to bring about a positive outcome.. Sometimes it needs a little more... Sometimes a whole new provision is needed. But we won't know what's right for a child until we explore this... Want to learn more? We will be covering this in great detail in our upcoming webinar on School Avoidance and Recovery. We develop a passion for knowledge and understanding so that we can continue to grow in wisdom and learn from our mistakes. Educating for Perseverance: We gain the strength to keep going when it is easier not to and learn the value of pursuing the goal whatever obstacles stand in our way so that we achieve the success we wish for. Executive Producer @ Scope & Sequence | Messaging Strategist | Policy Education | Author of Fair is Fair - A children's book
In this video that Scope & Sequence created with Beacon Center of Tennessee, we tackle the questions: What are charter schools and who are they for? Turns out there are a lot of misconceptions. I learned a bunch from working on this video. I think if we were to remake this video today, I might swap the term "Public School" with "Government School" Per what I've gleaned from Corey DeAngelis. #charterschools #schoolchoice #spn #publicschools #educationpolicy #doe #educationreform #explainervideo #mythbusters
