Our teams in FEMA Region 5 continued to impact people and communities in the month of June. We boosted our #SummerReady messaging to ensure communities have plans in place to keep residents safe when the temperatures soar. We partnered with the Ohio Emergency Management Agency for a roundtable in Portsmouth, Ohio, where we dug in to understand the risks and needs of underserved communities. We continued offering assistance to those whose homes and property have been hit by natural disaster. We continued working with local, state, and federal partners in Wisconsin to ensure everyone understands their roles in managing the Republican and National Convention, which will be held in Milwaukee in July. Our Regional Administrator, Thomas S., has a quick update on the work we've done.

After 30 years on the frontlines, I've seen firsthand how government efforts stack up against nature's fury. The truth? It's a mixed bag of progress and missed opportunities. 5 critical areas where governments are falling short: 1. Inadequate funding for proactive forest management 2. Slow adoption of cutting-edge firefighting technologies 3. Insufficient community education programs 4. Lax enforcement of fire-safe building codes 5. Limited cross-border cooperation for regional fire prevention But it's not all bad news. Some jurisdictions are leading the charge with innovative approaches. The stakes are too high for complacency.
