This week, we were happy to see that FEMA unveiled another step in reducing barriers for approval of hazard mitigation projects 🦺. Where do cyber professionals see Bill 31 fitting within building resiliency within our critical infrastructure? Looking at risk alone, an asset owner will need to identify "all reasonably foreseeable" hazards and assess the likelihood and consequences. There is wording on what the risk assessment must be based off of. Where I see a potential gap for threats specifically to OT infrastructure, is will experts be brought in to help assess this specific risk category? Or will this risk be assessed by general risk practitioners or the asset owners themselves? Can you see where OT Cyber Security Risk Assessments fit into the outcome of this change? Join the National Indian Health Board (NIHB) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to learn more about developing and implementing tribal hazard mitigation plans. The webinar will be held on July 24 from 3 - 4:30 p.m. ET. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gQVZKtzJ A hazard mitigation plan is a road map to resilience. Tribal Nations can use plans to reduce the risk of natural disasters. A FEMA-approved plan can also help Tribal Nations access certain non-emergency disaster assistance and funding. This webinar will cover the importance of mitigation planning. It will also go over the tools and resources available from NIHB, FEMA, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to help get plans started. A Tribal Nation will also share experiences with mitigation planning. The webinar is free and open to the public. However, it is most relevant for tribal planners, emergency management professionals, and environmental health staff. Update 003 - This was a week of many milestones for Emergency Management. Not only was the modernized Emergency and Disaster Management Act (Bill 31) tabled in the legislature, but the Second Reading of the Bill occurred. During the Second Reading we heard from Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from across the province. Many shared stories as to why this piece of legislation is important, while highlighting the responsibility all levels of government have in meeting the needs of all British Columbians during an emergency. The commitment and concern was evident. Stay Tuned for more updates as we will be following Bill 31 as it moves through the legislature.
