In 2023, FEMA asked artists living in Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming to submit their work that focuses on climate resilience and highlights the challenges of adapting to a changing climate. After reviewing the many entries and selecting the winners, we’re showcasing some of that work throughout the summer in Colorado, North Dakota and Utah! Three artists will be featured in an upcoming exhibition investigating and sharing the stories of resilience in a changing climate. From sublime foreshadowing to documentation of the real ways natural hazards affect our lives, Documentary Photographer Tamara Susa, Painter and Sculptor Bill Nelson, and Independent Filmmaker Emilie Upczak shine a light on their stories of loss and resilience. Merging two iconic artworks, The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh and the Titanic leaving port, would be quite the sight. While The Starry Night is a swirling post-impressionist landscape depicting a vibrant night sky over a quaint village, the #Titanic leaving port is a #historical #photograph capturing a momentous event. Here's how you could #imagine this interesting combination: Imagine the swirling stars and moon of The #StarryNight transposed onto the night sky above the port where the Titanic is docked. The #ship's smokestacks could be puffing out smoke that blends with the swirling brushstrokes of the sky. The dark hull of the ship would contrast with the bright lights of the city in the background, creating a scene of both #beauty and #mystery. It would be an interesting #fusion of realism and impressionism, capturing the grandeur of the Titanic's departure against the dreamlike backdrop of #VanGogh's #masterpiece. Since The Starry Night is a nighttime scene, it would be more fitting to depict the Titanic at night, leaving the port illuminated by the city lights. This would create a more cohesive and visually striking image. #aiart #digitalart #design #creativity

Three Men Running to the de Young Museum captured through window covering fabric. The in-camera photograph is from the Unaltered State of Reality Collection. The intent of this Collection was to use a museum space to create a new photographic body-of-work and not photograph the artwork exhibited. I wanted to see the museum as a public space documenting the visitors, architecture, and building materials through prolonged observation. In many cases, the photographs incorporate a variety of materials, reflections, and movement into the images. Another goal of the 3 year project was to create images that questioned the viewer’s assessment of the image, that is, was the image a photograph, painting, or watercolor, or something else? This idea is fundamental on how people perceive what is in front of them based on individual interpretation from upbringing, education, and biases, thereby exploring the viewer's assumptions. #photographyisart #photographyart #photography #fineartphotography #photographer #artist #artcollectors #artcurators #art #museums #MuseumCurators #artconsultants #corporatecollectors #curators #photoftheday #ContemporaryArt #collection #originalprint #interiordesign #fineart #prints #fineartphotography #artwork

✨ *Elevation of Timeless Symmetry* ✨ This infrared photograph weaves a tale where history and modernity merge into a monochromatic dreamscape, inviting you to explore the delicate dance between past and future. At the heart of the scene stands a dignified historical building, its steeple reaching skyward with solemn reverence, whispering secrets of bygone eras. Behind it, a towering modern structure rises like a guardian of progress, harmonizing lines and forms that bridge time itself. The sky above, alive with textured clouds, casts shifting shadows that breathe life into the monochrome palette, transforming the familiar into the fantastical. This surreal interplay between old and new, tradition and innovation, blurs the boundaries of time—beckoning us to linger, ponder, and lose ourselves in contemplation of what was, what is, and what might yet be. Infrared photography turns moments like these into portals, where the tangible meets the ethereal, and every glance reveals a new layer of mystery. #InfraredPhotography #MonochromeMagic #SurrealLandscapes #ArchitecturalPhotography #VisualStorytelling #Dreamscape #ArtAndArchitecture #TimelessDesign #PhotographyOfTheDay #AtmosphericArt #BlackAndWhitePhotography #InfraredArt #TraditionAndModernity #SurrealWorld #NatureAndArchitecture #PhotographyJourney

Last night I attended a Photography Workshop on Long Exposure presented by Vladimir Grablev at the Loudoun County Public Library. You should check out some of his incredible photos at his website below. During the workshop, he drew a distinction between long exposures and shutter speed. He mentioned that a lot of people think that to create long exposure shots, you need a slow shutter speed. But, that’s not really the case. He explained that long exposure is about capturing changes over time in a single frame, generally capturing movement or the changing of light. Whereas shutter speed is just a metric for how long the camera captures light. To illustrate this point, he showed us amazing long exposure photos that were captured in a mere 1/8 of second and others that kept the shutter open for literally hours. This got me to thinking about other areas where we confuse the outcome with the metrics. ⏺ Hours worked 𝘃𝘀 quality deliverables ⏺ Bodyweight 𝘃𝘀 healthy lifestyle ⏺ Attendance 𝘃𝘀 real engagement ⏺ Test scores 𝘃𝘀 real learning ⏺ Website traffic 𝘃𝘀 sales ⏺ Salary 𝘃𝘀 job satisfaction Each of the “metrics” on the left are aspects of the objectives on the right; but we often conflate the two, focusing on the metric versus the true objective. In photography, a good long exposure shot captures a meaningful passage of time that results in an image that has meaning for the photographer and/or the viewer. Whether it’s 1/8 of a second or 3 hours… the metric doesn’t define whether the output is “good” or not. Only the people engaging with the photo can determine that. This is true in many other aspects of life and business as well. Too much focus on the metric can cause us to miss the bigger picture… the long exposure, if you will, of our real objective. Here’s to focusing on what matters in life, business (and photography). #QualityOverQuantity #FoucsOnWhatMatters #Photography #StakeholderEngagement #PeopleFirst https://lnkd.in/guAr7A7x
