🚨PSA: Take those vacation days! They’re a part of your compensation and not taking all of them means you’re leaving money on the table. Time off—guilt-free—helps avoid burnout. We often think that resting or taking a break is a waste of time but in fact, the opposite is true. #Rest is critical not only for our health but for our productivity and creativity too! It’s good for you. It’s good for your team. It’s good for business. #PTO #vacation

Question for the US-Americans: when you say you had xx days of PTO but you were not "able" to take them, why was that? I worked in multinational US companies before and indeed the US-Americans accumulated their PTO whereas anywhere else in the world people took their holidays. There were no particular formal restrictions for the US and many had non-US managers so they really had the same conditions in the company as their non-US counterparts. Btw, in some countries in Europe to avoid having people accumulate days, you loose all holidays that you haven't taken by the end of the year. Another motivation to take your holiday, as otherwise you'll simply loose it.

The American stigma about talking PTO is so alien to people working in Europe, why do people feel so guilty about rest and spending time with family? Is it an inherited habit from past generations?

I am a millennial and I take every single day, every single year, unapologetically. The amount of PTO is one of the biggest determining factors in whether I take a role or not. My down time means a lot to me and is very much needed. Companies that offer 10-15 days are automatically out of the running, as are those who refuse to tell you how many days are offered upfront.

Not taking vacation days is out of integrity. It leads to resentment of your job and life. Take your vacation days and come back refreshed and thankful for your job.

My last job offered 20 vacation days. Never, in the 3.5 years that I worked there, was I able to take that much time in a year. I could carry over 10 days but that only works for the first year. I left with two weeks carry over and a week of earned PTO for this year and they wouldn't pay it out because I gave two weeks notice, not 4. For a job that routinely denied vacation time requests.

Yesssss! Take it from this GenX gal, ladies! Take your vacation days and REST. When I was younger, I would work during my vacation, missing out on family time. For some reason, I thought it would help me climb that corporate ladder, 'giving it my all' to my job. Please don't make the same mistakes I did, as in the end, all that extra work never mattered. Thank you to The Female Quotient for an empowering post! Now go and enjoy your weekend, girls! ♥

I noticed no workers from Japan or China were asked the question of how much vacation or p.t.o. they received.

Sitting here with 150 hours of PTO and holding on to them like a squirrel for some reason. I am not sure why… but this video just motivated me to schedule some days/weeks off in the next few months.

Using the word, "HOLIDAY" versus "PTO" does create a different sense and feeling of time. What a great video.

When I was a manager, I learned that part of my responsibility as a leader was prioritizing my own well-being and resting. 💪🏾 This was hard for me because I struggled with wanting to feel needed and felt like I had to be present all the time. It's true that some jobs make it more challenging for employees to use all their PTO. But guess what? That's not my problem. I stopped asking for permission to use my benefits. ✈️ Of course, I would still give my team and boss enough time to prepare, but if I'm "requesting" time off, I'm telling you I won't be there, and that's that! 👏🏽 Let's normalize using our PTO without guilt. 🌟
